Can anyone help with the baptism date or any information on a John Wildgoose supposedly born about 1808 in Taddington, Derbyshire please.
I know he was still alive in 1871 in Disley, Derbyshire.

Hello Judy.......are you sure of your facts??..You quote Disley as a place of residence in 1871........The 1871 Census entry for a John Wildgoose at Disley..........shows him with a wife CATHERINE from Roscommon Ireland.......and he being born in Darley Dale 1809.....
There is no John Wildgoose in the Taddington Parish records.................but there are 25 at Darley Dale.of which TWO might qualify........
John Wildgoose baptised 06.04.1810 son of John and Mary
John Wildgoose baptised 24.03.1799 son of John and Ann.......probably too early......
If you can give any more details they would be useful...........though I warn you that WILDOOSE
is one of the most common names in Derbyshire..and when you add in the variations of WILLGOOSE and WILGOOSE.we're in trouble!!

Assuming he is the chap married to a Catherine born 1822 Ross common Ireland on the 1871 census then some of the marriage details are on Familysearch 31.1.1837 Tideswell

Catherine Jackson widow d of Samuel Small.
Looking at Familysearch again- 2 choices
John Wildgoose 11.10.1806 Crich s of George and Ann Wildgoose
John Brockhurst Wilkson 16.4.1808 sof George and Peggy at Taddington.
The first thing I can definitely find is his first marriage to Elizabeth Lomas at Tideswell 5.3.1832.
Elizabeth seems to die Mar 1844 Bakewell 19 291 And John seems to remarry a Mary Hudson at Sheffield 22 420 June 1844.
She was also from Tideswell but presumably then wanted to avoid any talk from the neighbours about marrying so soon.

Too early to make that assumption..till we hear from Judy.......she might mean Tideswell rather than Taddington.......I even have a John Wildgoose born 1805 in my Tree!!

Presumably the Taddington reference come from this 1851 census entry at Cressbrook:
John Wildgoose mar 44 Overseer Factory (Cotton & wool) born Taddington
Mary wife 43 employed at home born Tideswell

Yes Shaun..I think you're right..but Judy specifically said her John was at Disley in 1871..as specificaly as she said John was born Taddington............but je ain't in the Taddington Pr's.......we have to wait for Judy to return.......

Many thanks to Derek, "Ciderdrinker" and Shaun J for their helpful answers to my query. My husband John is still trying to sort things out. But the John I am talking about definitely had 3 wives. And his father was George, well so we think. I will let you all know when we have found more information.
