I have come across a number of burial records for the Milnsbridge area, where the home address has been given at Brierley Wood. Does anyone know where this area is/was? I have looked on the Old Ordnance Survey Map Huddersfield (West) for 1905, but cannot see either a wooded area with that name, or a hamlet.
Many thanks for any suggestions

Many thanks for your prompt response. Would that be the Slaithwaite side or the Huddersfield side of Milnsbridge? Are there any landmarks/buildings associated with Brierley Wood that i could use to pinpoint the area?

Hello,
If you google Brierley Wood it gives you an address for a planning application so you could then
enter that postcode into Old Maps. I must say I have done that and can't see an actual name on old maps but it nay give you an idea if you are familiar with the area.
There was also a school named/ at Brierley Wood (scroll down to schools list) http://www.huddersfield1.co.uk/huddersfield/huddstrivia2.htm
It was later, possibly,Crossland Moor Bottom school.
Do your people appear on any census? If so what addresses?

Many thanks for the additional information, particularly about the school and chapel. The West Yorkshire Archive Service (Kirklees) hold the records for Brierley Wood school, and the Local Studies Library had a large map that showed the location of the school. I was able to establish that Brierley Wood on the A62 is on the Huddersfield side of Park Road. So many thanks.

My grandfather had his own concreter & asphalter business in 1926. the address was Pinfold, Brierley Wood, Huddersfield.
It was situated at the bottom of Park Rd.West. Though now derelict, the building can be seen from Manchester Rd. A62
