Title: Hugh Carroll Irishtown
Post by: Aideen McBride on Friday 09 May 14 19:41 BST (UK)
This is a photo of my great great grandfather Hugh Michael Carroll, born 1856 of James Carroll and Brigid?

In 1876 he married Anne Molloy of 4 maginness place in St Andrews Church.

The photo shows 5 children but I have only found records for 4
James Carroll born 16th June 1877,
Maria Carroll born 28 th Nov 1878
Peter Carroll born 3rd Feb 1880
Christopher Carroll born 24th April 1881 (my great grand father)

The children were all baptised at St Mary's Church Haddington Rd, and the family lived on Irishtown rd, moving between no.s 1 and 2 sometimes referred to as 'Carroll Cottages' on the baptismal register. There were a family of Brown's living in those houses also, I suspect Mr's Brown was a sister to Hugh.

We have been told the uniform is Connaught Rangers, but if anyone can hop identify Hugh's position in the regiment form the design on the sleeves, or identify the campaigns from the medals I would be very grateful.

Thanks
Aideen

If you post a link to this thread on the Armed Forces board the experts there should be able to help with the uniform info http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?board=300.0

:o sorry I should have checked first, you already have it posted there.

Thanks Sinann, I didn't know how to link to the other site, so I posted the picture there too,
I would also like to hear from any other descendants from the Carroll line as I know 2 ended up back in Dublin aftertwards.
There is also a story that one of them may have owned the Brazen Head pub in Dublin at one time (Oldest Pub in Dublin)
