I've just spent the last few months trying to trace a William Reed of Ilfracombe only to find out my William Reed was from Braunton!

found this in the 1851 census, although the place of birth doesn't fit for William, the age and occupation do so he could be yours,hope it helps

There are 75 Reed's in Braunton in 1841. Here is the 1841 entry-same family as found in 1851 by Jericho.
