perhaps you have thought of street directories heres one
In 1943 in http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/dcomplete1943.htm
Daisyfield Street Belfast from 286 Crimea Street to Snugville Street
24. Finlay, S., fitter

Thanks for that, I had a look but not sure it's him. On his marriage certificate in 1933 he was a checker.

My Porter is from Belfast, but that is all I know.
William Porter (b about 1800) was Protestant and eloped to Canada with the Catholic Love-of-his-life Margaret Manley, also of Belfast. She was from a wealthy family. That is all I have from their granddaughter's writings.
Do you have a missing William in your tree?? ;D
Regards,
Dianne

Hi Dianne, You should start your own heading perhaps. My quick search results in:-
The earliest Manley records I could find were not in Belfast street directories where I did find eg 1861 Mrs Manley living in Silverstream, Greenisland
at the Carrickfergus Junction Station.
Then I discovered the Silverstream river marking the westernmost boundary of the large town of Carrickfergus. Moving to Griffiths valuation printed in 1861 so presumably made up within say the previous two years included only one property listed under Henry
Manley - West Division - Carrickfergus with Map ref 171. This is described as having 15 acres of land with House , offices, stewards office. The buildings were valued at £27 pa, the ordinary folk home was 10 shillings by comparision. Also Griffiths lists at least 6 Porters living in the same area.
http://www.doeni.gov.uk/niea/content-databases-buildview?id=15706&js=true has two entries one for Silverstream House demolished, the other Silverstream Lodge. There is a description in detail of the lodge and a reference to Manley. I would encourage you to use griffiths valuation website at www.askaboutireland.com It has map references which will enable you to see the building shapes and location on an OS map 1860 First series, first revision.
PRONI has a few records but they might not be related Agreement pursuant to a Court Order between Anne Countess Dowager of Massereene and William Manley over land in Castleton. Also the will Will of Waring Manley late of Chlorine House, University Road, Belfast, merchant, who died 18 May 1918 granted at Belfast to Agnes Manley, Chlorine House, University Road, Belfast, widow. Effects: £12,418 3s 3d. Much earlier in the 1766 Religious Census two Protestant Manley are listed In Co Wicklow
I looked briefly at the irish census and spotted a Henry Cunningham Manley a surgeon and widower living with his daughter at 15 in Whitehouse (Whitehouse, Antrim) in 1911, both Church of Ireland. but in 1901 there is only an Augusta Manley a barmaid in Belfast Hotel , a catholic. So on the Manley side much to explore, the Porters are going to be the problem. I did not look up the other census 1821,1831,1741,1851
I forgot to mention
Silverstream House was No 2 Shore Road,
Silverstream Lodge was No 11 Shore Road
Over to others to help you onwards jimG

Hi Dianne, as far as I know, I have no William Porter in Belfast around that date. As early as that, my line of Porters were not living in Belfast.

Porter's of Ashbourne Shore Road were members of Carrickfergus and District Historical Society
might be a total useless piece of information
Steve ;D

Good idea Steve, had quick look but couldn't trace unless its Ashbourne Manor which has been redeveloped recently, but its Shore Rd again.
Dianne I have to stop work for awhile. I'm posting what further i have but as you will find I have become uncertain are we dealing with one or two Henry Manley.
Henry Manley of Carrickfergus made his will in 1853, but PRONI adds a note to what is an index entry The original documents referred to in this index DO NOT exist. No further information, other than that recorded above, has survived. I’m afraid that’s just bad luck. A probate index entry might confirm the same. But the will and probate have probably been destroyed in Irelands past history. His wiil might have given and proved the family connection. and if he provided something for Margaret. Whether the Mrs Manley of Silverstream is his wife or mother remains unclear to me. But I remain sure the property is the same in Griffiths and Street Directories so its in his name in Griffith, her name in St Directories for whatever reasons.. Indeed because I cant find what the family business is at all, I am further confused. He could have been the same named Henry John Manley of the Northern Bank Lisburn.. A train to Belfast from Greenisland x minutes Belfast to lisburn 20 minutes. Commuting possible. Or he has a business where the trading name is completely seperated indeed hidden from his private life.
Silverstream House was No 2 Shore Road, Mrs Manley is listed as the resident in http://streetdirectories.proni.gov.uk/for years 1858 - 1864, but not by 1870, so far no obituary etc
Silverstream Lodge is No 9 Shore Road Google maps street scene confirms this https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.686948,-5.872417,3a,75y,154.78h,63.26t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sBdzNShlXNG4BnHxBf2bMnw!2e0 The white pillared double gateway is quite something but you cant see the house.!
The Northern Bank opened a major branch in Lisburn in 1835. An unknown manager managed it from 1835 to 1842 Henry John Manley was appointed in 1842, his successor was R H Bland in 1875 In 184 Their first premises were situated in Bow Street (it is said in the house, afterwards occupied by the Ulster Bank), later they moved to Castle Street and about the year 1870. the present building at the corner of Railway Street was erected and occupied.
Henry became a church warden at Lisburn Cof I Cathedral
