I am a bit confused my John Reynolds married Mary Ellen Richardson 12th Nov 1861 according to newspaper article in the Leeds Mercury but the 1861 census taken in April that year states they are husband and wife ???
Were census records taken in April like they are now

The 1861 Census for England was taken on the night of 7 April 1861.

It's not unusual for people to tell a little white lie at census time. ;)

Thank you everyone for your replies not sure where or how I got the dates wrong....will rewind and check the paper again....I couldnt find any other record of the marriage either so thank you Groom can send for the marriage cert now
