My relative Sarah Annie Hughes was born in Ravenswood Queensland in 1874 the daughter of William Madeley Hughes and Sarah Greenwood who married at Maryborough Queensland in 1861.Looking this morning on Ancestry prompted by the addition of a photo to someone's Tree,it seems she died in Brisbane Queensland in 1919 under the name of Sarah Annie Quince.
Now looking at available records on Ancestry and available Trees it seems she married a William John Quince at Queensland in 1908 under the name of Sarah Annie Henry.Looking again at these Trees and available records it seems she was the mother of a Cleo Henry born in Leichhardt New South Wales in 1903.The father being given as a Charles Henry.
Now whilst again these Trees give the children born to William John Quince and Sarah Henry, what they don't give is any record of the marriage of the Charles Henry and Sarah Annie Hughes.
Regards
William Russell Jones.

Note the above death index has Henry in his name. Maybe a transcribing error with the marriage index put Sarah's last name as Henry instead of Hughes.

Sarah's death cert. can be obtained online and it should give heaps of information if filled out correctly, including her childrens's names etc so that should clear up the Cleo child mystery.

I cant find a marriage between a Hughs and Henry. I cant even find anything on Cleo.

No mention of a wife and child in the death notice. Maybe not the right Charles Henry.
Cleo's birth cert. i should think would state if her parents were actually married or not.
-
Thanks giblet.Though if Cleo's parents weren't married, wouldn't her name be given perhaps as Cleo Hughes?Admittedly her marriage certificate would perhaps give her parents details?

Many thanks once again for these further replies.Just one thought on all this; How close is Leichhardt in New South Wales to the area in Queensland where the Hughes family lived?
Regards
William Russell Jones.

I've looked on a map and its roughly 600 miles from where the Hughes family lived.

Are you talking about Ravenswood or Maryborough?
Leichhardt is a suburb of Sydney. Sydney to Maryborough (north of Brisbane) is 1182 km approx 13.5 hrs driving time.
Maryborough to Ravenswood (much further north in Queensland) is 1097 km approx 12 3/4 hrs driving time.
I today's times of course. So a very long way.

Many thanks for your replies.I'm amazed really at the distances involved here. Here in the UK we think of somewhere 50 miles away as quite distant!

Hi, I too am related to Sarah Annie Hughes. Her daughter Thelma May Quince was my grandmother and she was born in Brandon, North Queensland. The family moved soon after to Brisbane. If you look Sarah Annie up on Ancestry and view the West Stevens family tree there is further information. My dad Ron West had previously wrongly labeled some pics which I have now updated with the correct names - I think these are the ones you have viewed. I also have had difficulty finding marriage records of Sarah Annie Hughes and Charles Henry, so am still searching. If you want specific info (including details of the shark attack involving John William Henry Quince) drop me a line and I will be happy to oblige. Thanks. Vicki
