On my flat screen television I have the usual baffling collection (to me at least) of inputs and outputs at the back and to the side - in my day it was just the one socket to plug the aerial into!
I use my laptop computer a lot to watch BBC iplayer for example and have been told that it's possible to connect it to the television by way of a HDMI cable, which seems on the face of it a bit of a kerfuffle.
So, a quetion for the tech guys on here - is it possible to connect using wifi and if so, how?
Any help for an increasingly confused pensioner much appreciated.

Can you tell us the model of the flatscreen telly?

Hi Pauline, it's a Samsung LE26 B450 C4W and we've had it about two years.
Thanks.

I don't think that model of TV has a WiFi capability? :(
-
Probably not KG, but maybe there is some sort of plug in or interface I could use?
It's all very complicated :(

If you search for "Now TV (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Now+TV)" or "Google TV Box (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Google+TV)" or "Smart TV adapter (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Smart+TV+adapter)" or similar these are boxes that plug into the HDMI socket on the Telly.
You can then watch things like Youtube and BBC Iplayer and the like (different models have different capabilities though).

Hi
According to the Connectivity section from the TV's specs, there is a PC input:

Is your TV near to your PC or does your laptop have a socket like this? :

If so, then just unplug the screen cable from your PC and plug it into the back of the TV, or unplug from your PC at both ends and connect your laptop to the TV.
Saves buying an HDMI cable if you haven't got one.

Many thanks for that, I will give it a try.
Good to hear that it is possible anyway, and of course saves having to buy one of those 'smart' televisions we were all hearing about.

Hi
HUMAX (no experience of other manufactures) do Freesat and Freeview boxes which will allow you to run both I&BBC players when connected to the internet.
You would need cable to connect "box" to your "router".
You do not need aerial nor sat connected if that (player) is all you wish to watch.
You would need an hdmi cable to connect "box" to "tv"
and
a "faster" bband connection to run higherspec HD for the players.

I have a cable that I leave permanently plugged into the tv, then if I want to watch the computer through the tv all I do is plug the other end into the laptop and turn the tv to the correct input. Takes a few seconds. From what I remember the cable came either with the laptop or the tv, I certainly didn't buy it.

some of the adaptors I have seen are to connect a non wireless smart tv to connect to your wireless network, but the tv must be a smart tv in the first place, so make sure the one you get does what you want, also the nowtv box I saw requires a sky subscription, its a bit of a minefield.
I would think about a cable connection as Groom suggests.
Or treat yourself to a wireless full HD smart tele :) :) :), its only taken us three months to get the hang of ours, and the wretched thing does updates to its software every month.
you can access the internet from it directly, iplayer is one touch of a button and select what you want to watch, or you can synch it to your laptop and it will just display whatever is on your laptop screen

Hi,
I have a Smart TV a LG 46 inch, which connects to my router via WIFI. On the TV menu are all the Catchup stations, you just have to download the programmes and play them at your leisure. The faster the broadband the quicker the download.
