An interesting snippet re John Mallory GRAYSON appears in the 'Poverty Bay Herald' dated 4.1.1901.
It concerns selection for the Sixth Contingent and gives the weight, age, height & chest measurement for John Mallory.

Marriage for Thomas Henry GRAYSON to Ethel Constance WATKINS, 1898.

The 'Poverty Bay Herald' has a number of advertisements about the sale of BUSHMERE FARM and household effects of Mr. T. H. GRAYSON between the dates, 22.12.1900 and September 1902.
See in particular article dated 29.12.1900 which gives a description of the farm.

William Duncan GRAYSON is proving difficult to find.
There is one possible marriage, 1896, William GRAYSON to Emily ROWLAND.
As both Thomas Henry & John Mallory lived in the Poverty Bay region it is possible/probable that William settled there too.
The 'Poverty Bay Herald' dated 13.12.1899 mentions William Grayson of Gisborne, settler.
Also from the 'Poverty Bay Herald' dated 2.11.1906, "For London, Mr. W. Grayson per Ionic, leaving Wellington on November 8th.
Perhaps William dropped the use of his second Christian name?
[A puzzle: Reply #3 mentions the baptism of William Ness GRAYSON. Could this by some stretch of the imagination actually be William Duncan?]

Hi again
It seems that William GRAYSON, on several occasions used the name William Duncan GRAYSON (more particularly for electoral enrolment), but otherwise was known as plain William GRAYSON.
[I'll post electoral details shortly. ]
The 1881 UK census information (given earlier in this thread) indicates that William the brother of Thomas and John, was born about 1876.
I believe that the following NZ death is for the same person.
1951 - GRAYSON - William - 75 years [bc 1876 ]
Burial and other info, to follow > >

It appears that William GRAYSON married twice (on the second occasion, shortly after the death of his wife Emily).
The burial details for William (Jock) GRAYSON and second wife Katherine D'Arcy GRAYSON, can be viewed at the following link >

> click on the "Council A-Z" then "cemetery and crematorium search" link

Edit: oops ... I'll re-check that website ;D

[NZ Marriage -- 1896 - William GRAYSON - Emily ROWLAND ]
Am assuming the above marriage is the correct one ? Later records show that Emily had two other Christian names.
NZ Births -- GRAYSON
1900 - Mary Elizabeth
1905 - John Duncan
1906 - Emma
1910 - Zena Joan

The following may also be births to the same couple ?
GRAYSON
1898 - Algernon William George GRAYSON
1914 - Liddell McNain GRAYSON

From 1914 William and wife are in Far North (Northland district) - and their names are listed slightly differently from previous entries :
1914 - Bay of Islands - Northland
GRAYSON
- Duncan William - Umawera - Farmer
- Ian * Emily Maria - Kokukohu - married
[* "Ian" is likely a transcription error ? Although Emily's probate record (1926) gives her name as "Jan Emily Maria" GRAYSON her death record listing shows "Emily Maria" GRAYSON ?? ]
1919 - same electorate - similar details Ian Emily Maria GRAYSON & Duncan William GRAYSON ... but both now residing at Umawera.
[ There is also a George GRAYSON, farmer at Kohukohu on same 1919 roll. Any relation ? ]
Edit : I suspect this "George" GRAYSON might in fact be the son "Algernon William George" born c. 1898 who in 1922 is living at Umawera. ?
I've yet to check the 1922 and 1925 rolls (they take a little longer to sift through) ... but did notice that Emily was still on 1928 roll (even though she'd died late 1925) ?
-
PapersPast has the following snippet for William GRAYSON of Kohukohu (and I assume this is the same man, the husband of Emily ? )
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
"Northern Advocate" (Northland) - 4 May 1918 - page 2
