Title: Waikato land grants NZ Wars
Post by: shaigh on Wednesday 23 April 14 06:34 BST (UK)
Several ancestors served in the Waikato Militia and received land grants both town acres and rural land blocks.  I am interested in finding out when and to who these changed hands over the years and also in seeing the original land grant documents for some of these.
I have a copy of the relevant surveys from the 1860s which lists the Parish numbers and names of soldiers for each parcel of land. Is this enough to start a search and where would I go from here?
Any help much appreciated.

Hello,

I suggest you contact Archives about this. If you e-mail them and explain the situation I'm sure you will find the staff helpful.

Hi again shaigh.

I suggest it's best that you take a trip out to Pamure to the NZ Society of Genealogists. It is my understanding they have got their historic titles search programme up and running again, originally started by Council Members J. Gillard and co. What they exhibited at the last Hamilton Family History Fair was quite amazing. Information about their service will be on-line, and in back issues of their magizine.

PS. You live closer to that wall on the left, and are closer to Pamure that I. But it's a trip I to must do one day, for similar Waikato information.
