If you mean personal messages here on RootsChat, you can't send or receive any until you have made three posts.  So post a couple more here on this thread.

If you have found a thread in which you are interested then it's best to reply on that thread initially so the person knows that you have ancestors in common.

Personal messages are not normally needed until you have established a link and living people's names become involved.

That way info might be put on the boards that can help another person out at a later date.

Do be aware though that you can't mention living people on here...that's what the personal message option is for....exchanging personal information.

I also have difficulty in getting a post started, that is why I am replying to this, and hopefully I can find out how to find a grave of a descendant who died Belfast 1892

Hello MGtmc and welcome to Rootschat

From the index page http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php scroll down and read the categories, you will find one headed Ireland- you can either post a look up under Ireland general or go onto the county boards, just make sure the board you post on is a look up board and not a resources one.

Hi welcome to Rootschat.

To start a new post go to Forum and chose the board where you want your message to appear eg

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?board=51.0

Then click on start a new topic and ask your question.

If you are not sure where to post, it is a good idea to put it in Beginners or The Common Room and a Mod will always move it for you.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat...you could start a post introducing yourself on the beginners forum outlining your queries until you find your way around.
Posts crossed Jan ;D

I've already established a link to another member and I've posted a public reply on the thread but I really want to PM him and swap telephone numbers because I know we're related! Eek! I'm so impatient.

When did you message him?

Have you checked to see if he/she still comes online to Rootschat?
