Title: Pre 1901 census fragments and Census Search Forms
Post by: Dolmen on Thursday 17 April 14 16:57 BST (UK)
These collections will be launched online on 28 April, according to Clare Santry's Irish Genealogy News at http://irish-genealogy-news.blogspot.com/2014/04/exclusive-countdown-to-pre-1901-irish.html (http://irish-genealogy-news.blogspot.com/2014/04/exclusive-countdown-to-pre-1901-irish.html)

Been waiting years for them.

I knew the Census fragments existed but didn't know about the Census Search Forms. This is GREAT.
Thanks Dolmen.

Fingers crossed some of my lot are there.

Thanks for the info Dolmen. I'll also keep my fingers crossed but I don't hold much hope as it appears that nothing survives for Dublin which is where my lot are from. :(

Thanks for the heads up, Dolmen. It will be interesting to see what has survived.

I can see the Censuses ( I'm refusing to be disappoint, it was expected) I don't see the Search Forms. Am I being a clutts or are they not there yet?

They are there - but seem not to be mentioned on the main genealogy home page yet.  I got the link from Claire Santry's blog: http://irish-genealogy-news.blogspot.com/2014/04/pre-1901-irish-census-records-launch.html

Thank you Purpeller, first glance doesn't look good for me but it's great to see these records online.

They are all on the home page now. I have just been looking but nothing for me that I can see >:(
It is great that they have put what there is online but it makes me sad for the loss of the records, looking at what we might have had !!
Good luck to those who find some relevant records, I am enjoying looking at them anyway.

Is anyone else having problems seeing the entire page on ipad. I was on the PC earlier and there was a bit missing but it was okay but on the ipad the search button is cut off, I can just hit Go on the keyboard so still useable.

I have same problem on my netbook couldn't see the button to look at the image. I used 'control and - ' together to make it all smaller. I am enjoying it, I think I found my aunts gfather in law, not what I was hoping for but I am happy and my cousin will be happy :)

Only counties showing any significant listings are Derry in 1831 and Antrim in 1851.In 1851 country excluding above had about 6 million people.Just 299 names survive!!!No problem getting images for search forms, but in all cases I've looked at so far, response from PRO was "family not found".

I gave up putting in family names and just looked at the entire county, pretty sure I saw a county with just one family in it.
Sad so little survived.
A lot of the search forms seem to be for single people, well at least the ones I looked at only hit on one or two listing children. The link to the Search Forms is on the Genealogy page now.

There are 8914 records that should technicaly be in PRONI..

RETURNS: Antrim...2085 Armagh...1135 L/derry...1096 Fermanagh...1218
Tyrone...1400 and Down...1980

Total 8914 in the Dublin lot!

PRONI has a lot that should be in Dublin!!

To quote http://censussearchforms.nationalarchives.ie/search/cs/home.jsp

....The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) holds Census Search Forms for people living in Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Derry, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Monaghan and Tyrone at the time of their pension applications and include those who had been born or spent their childhood in other counties.....

They don't!!

They are missing Antrim...2085 Armagh...1135 L/derry...1096 Fermanagh...1218
Tyrone...1400 and Down...1980  WITHOUT taking Cavan, Donegal or Monaghan into account!!!

except for the 13657 which Dublin didn't send them...
