Title: Power family from tramore who worked in Maddenstown Lodge 1900's
Post by: WILKEL on Wednesday 16 April 14 13:34 BST (UK)
Can anyone help me in tracing the Power family related to Senator Parkinson of Maddenstown Lodge?
I understand that they originally came from Knockanduff, Tramore, Co. Waterford in early 1900's to work for the horse trainer. Any help anyone? Please! I know that they were related to the late MEP Paddy Power.

I presume you are talking about Patrick Power age 30 who worked for Denis Shanahan as a stable boy in 1901 at no 2 Strawhall,Kildare and in 1911 for James Joseph Parkinson in 9 Maddenstown North,Ballysax on both occasions a single man born Waterford as was James Parkinson. so in what context do you mean related.
James Parkinson seems to match with a Margaret Brophy marriage 1895 in Naas so no obvious relationship there.

There is a will in Waterford for a Matthew William Parkinson 1892 born 1871 brother of James to his widowed mother Mary Anne.
There is also a will in 1883 for a Martin Whelan Parkinson but dont know if this is the father with name mispelt.
As James birth was 1869 i searched for a marriage from 1864 to 1869 for his parents but was unsuccessful.

1901    Mary Anne Parkinson age 50 at 1 Ballycarne,Waterford with children and 7yr old visitor Marguerita Power.

1911    Mary Anne Parkinson age 69 at 7 Ballycarnane,Waterford with children and niece Margaret Power age 17.

Unfortunately there are a few Margaret Powers born circa 1894 in Waterford.

DATHAI,
Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately they contain information that I already have. If you can find other ''news'' please let me know. Perhaps there are some newspaper cuttings of the time that may help. So far my investigations are just from Census 1901 / 1911 and the Parkinson family details, baptisms, wills, gravestones, Griffiths Valuations, etc. Thanks again.

Dathai,
Thanks again for your contribution. I was familiar with the tragic death of Joseph Parkinson (aged only 11 yrs.) and his funeral to Newbridge. I was not familiar with the Ellison cousins nor the fact that the Parkinson girls attended the boarding school in Kilcullen, although I was suspicious since they did not appear in the 1911 Census for Maddenstown Lodge. The story continues.........thanks again for all your help as I have been scouring the Kildare Observer also!!!

1901 Census of 6 Whitesland East has Charles Ellison Senior age 34 born Roscommon a horse trainer married to Mary Anne Brophy in Naas 1895 so this explains the cousin connection through the Brophy side.
