I'm trying to find some information on Cissy Kearns Tydavnet. I think she died back in 1963.
I would like to know where she was from originally and where she is buried and indeed any other info.
Thanks.

I would like to add some more info which I think is correct.
Cissy may have been a pet name and her real name may have been Josephine .
She may have been married to a Garda.
Thanks for any info.

If she was RC then probably buried in RC g/yard, Presbyterian in a Presbyterian Cemetery etc so if you found out her religion it would cut down on options.
-
I should have mentioned that she was Catholic.
Also she may have been in her late 70's/80 's when she died.
Thanks. m

I wonder if this could be the family in the 1911 census with the spelling Kerins:

See also this post by Jim Kerins on another website:

This looks like the same family in Newbliss in the 1901 census:

Edit:
Note that the enumerator is John Kerins who would normally have been on the form as Head of Household but is recorded at the barracks. That's the first time I have seen that.

...and this looks like the father in Newbliss barracks as J.K., constable:

It possible it is where he was on Census night.

Excellent work and thanks for all the help. This seems to be the family ok.
Would the parents (or family) be buried near Newbliss.
Any further info would be great.
Again thanks for the help.
-
Parents most probably not, he was from Sligo and wife from Meath!
-
The family was in Newbliss in 1901 and Tedavnet/Tydavnet in 1911. So the more likely of the two for family burials would be Tydavnet. If you have a look at the IGP website you can see that there is a Kerins grave at plot 38 of the new Tedavnet Cemetery:

If you are within striking distance it would be well worth a visit to check.

If you want to investigate a bit further back, the marriage details would give you Mary Josephine's maiden name. You can see from the census details that the couple married around 1898. Since Mary Josephine was originally from Meath it is quite likely that the marriage took place there. Familysearch has the marriage of a John Kerins in Kells in the period April - June 1898. The record would be on volume 2, page 725:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FYZN-DJ9
If you are feeling lucky, you could send to Roscommon for a copy (not a certificate) which would cost 4 euro:
http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx
If you include the volume and page number anywhere on the form it will ease the process. Don't worry if you have to leave some of the form blank. You have to post or fax the application but if you tick the relevant box they will e-mail the response.
-
Just thought I'd let you all know I received the marriage cert. by email and it is the correct one.
Thanks for all the help.
-
Excellent. It is great when you unearth the correct record.
With regard to Tydavnet graves, it might be worthwhile contacting the local historical society which is mentioned here:

Yes, it great when you get a result.
Thanks for the link they might be worth a call.

The Kerins you are researching I think was my aunt Ciss I was not aware that she died in Ireland but I will confirm with my sister who lives nearby to Tydavnet where she will definitely be buried if it is the same one. I have quite a lot of information on the Kerins family originally from Ballymote.

Just had it confirmed she dies in America and here daughter (my cousin) is a Mary Laverty who still lives in New York.
I do think she died around the time you have quoted and I can confirm if you want.
