Post by: shebalee on Tuesday 08 April 14 19:23 BST (UK)
I am looking for any information on the person mentioned above please,he was born in new zealand.i understand that he was in the military and his service number is 27982 and he was a gunner, and i believe that he married a lady by the name of Clarice Irene Faithfull.
They were married in New Zealand in 1919 on June 17th
Did the couple remain in New Zealand after their marriage or did they return to Australia after Ernests time in ww1

Papers Past makes it sound like he was temporarily residing in Australia when he signed up, probably went over for work:

 - 1916, enlisting

 - 1919, returning to Auckland

reference to him being involved in local schools:

Hi,

It's Anzac Day in NZ now and I've just come across this in looking online for something for my Dad. Ernest Cyril Ashmead Dutton was my Granddad. He and Clarice Irene lived in Albany and Bucklands Beach (Auckland), and my father was the third of their four children, the only one still alive. He has just turned 90 years of age. What a surprise this was to me, to see that someone from the UK was looking for him! Ernest and Clarice had 8 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren, and currently 8 greatgreatgrandchildren.

As it says above, my grandfather Ernest Cyril died in 1965. It's my father (Ernest's son) who is now 90 years of age. Apart from his service in the Australian military, Ernest lived in New Zealand and his family all remain here now.
