Humphrey & Susanna Banks married c. 1695 in south Shropshire. They lived in Bitterley and their descendants are known. I reckon Humphrey's grandparents were one of the descendants of Humphrey and Ursula Banks of Munslow. The children of this family were born between 1648 and 1662. A Humphrey was born into this family 1650. This Humphrey is most unlikely to be the one who married in 1695. Very likely there was an in-between family. But I have had no luck finding anything. Can anyone help please?

Hello WB54 and Alberbury,
Thank you for your kind responses in respect of the Banks family. I think I have got them sorted out now.

Hi BGB, sadly I could not find the marriage for Humphrey & Ursula Bankes.
Do you have this, as other descendants may look in the future ?
-
Hello Alberbury,
Sadly, I do not have marriage dates of Humphrey Banks (b.1629) and Ursula (although c.1648) nor seemingly their grandson Humphrey (b.c.1670) who married Susanna c.1695). It is possible the Humphrey born 1650 is the one who married Susanna but if it were him he would have been aged 45 so unlikely.
This was my dilemma - son or grandson. In my family history book I have said it could be either because no baptism record found for grandson Humphrey.

Hi guys,
I know I'm late but I'm descended from this family and I'm only looking into them now. The first Banks I come across is Elizabeth Banks (1771-1807) who married Richard Radnor. Elizabeth's fathers was Benjamin Banks (1735), his father was Abel Banks (1699) and his father was Humphrey Banks (1649) who married Susan(na). I wonder do you know if this is the correct line - as in, have I skipped generations or anything?
I did connect this Humphrey as a son of Humphrey and Ursula, but maybe I was wrong? I have a baptism record for a Humphrey Bankes baptized Feb 11, 1650 in Munslow, Shropshire, his parents being Humphrey and Ursula. Do you have this? Like you, I couldn't find a marriage cert for him and Susanna though.
I found other children of Humphrey and Ursula - Ephraim (1648), Benjamin (1651), Manasses (1654), Abigail (1655), Abel (1657). Very religious names, and very different? Were these names popular back then?

Hello Kit,
You seem to be on the right lines! I should be happy to email you my findings on the Banks - one of them, Mary Banks, married my greatgreat grandfather James Bennett in 1839. But to do this I will need your email address. Mine is brian@bucknall1.eclipse.co.uk

20 miles away in 1580
a daughter Jocosa Banks - father Humffrid Banks
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N2PD-JQH
I just thought that with Humphrey and Ursula having childrens unusual names - this girl and parents may be connected
-
Hello Garstonite - I suspect they are related - the Humphrid is too like Humphrey to be disregarded.
So I will take a look at the site. But proving beyond doubt may be impossible. In those days most people couldn't spell so the parish clerk who entered the names would have spelt them as he saw fit. Bear in mind dictionaries had yet to be published.
Thank you for your interest. BGB
