Post by: Eilleen on Saturday 05 April 14 13:18 BST (UK)
Hi  :)

Just a little rant to pass the time,

I put my name and password in , up comes my information,
try to search , press search button says no results ( no matter what word I try , )
examples   Lincoln, railway , boultham, slum and even HELP x
then it logs Me out.
I get the feeling it does not want Me to play, ::)

Why does it always seem to go "pear shaped" at a weekend?  :(

Title: Lincs to the past archives
Post by: junepeter327 on Sunday 06 April 14 16:54 BST (UK)
Hi, it's Sunday and I am trying to access the above website. Everything I put in the "advanced search" comes back with a Nil return. Does anyone know if this website is currently down?

I have used it before and I was transcribing some of the text for Stamford All Saints birth, marriage and death records.

Maybe I'm just not inputting the correct info to get a return?

I tried just Stamford, then Stamford All Saints, then just mar (for marriage), then birth etc and I get nothing. I tried in capitals and lower case, I tried with quotation marks either side, then a star either side and still nothing.

Can anyone help?

As mentioned on other posts, this is a fantastic FREE site, yes it does sometimes go down at weekends etc. But it will be up and running again hopefully, I think we all tend to get a little spoilt and want instant gratification at our finger tips. At least you can sit in your nice home and check out information without car trips, bus journeys etc. Just a little patience needed  ::) End of my rant :P

I think I am right in saying that the Lincs to the Past website is hosted by the Lincolnshire County Council computer and judging by the size and complexity of their website they would need to carry out any essential maintenance at weekends.

I, like others, have said in the past that those whose major research centers on Lincolnshire are fortunate to have access at our finger tips to a wealth of free Information available through LTTP and I agree with Larkspur we just have to be patient when it goes down.

It won't even connect this morning! :(

I will demand a refund.  >:(

As a general enquiry ... is there any point in registering?  I noticed Eilleen said she logged in ... I never do that.

I think you only need to register if you wish to purchase images from the site. I did register at the start but when I tried to purchase a number of pictures or an image of a  parish register I had all many of problems so decided it was perhaps easier to visit the archives.

But I still support the idea of the site even if it is a pain at times  ::)

It is great site and being free is a real bonus. However I do find the recent series of weekend down times really frustrating as I have little time for digging for ancestors during the week.

Off to Lincoln on Saturday to excavate some old records that haven't hit the site yet.

Me Too.
Also something else which has been annoying for some time is that when I enter a listed search for a particular register....... there is an empty space where the register has disappeared when I know from my records that I've previously extracted info from the register in question.
Additonally, this is affecting some info supplied by 'Dusty Docs' .......

Does anyone know what's going on with LTTP ?

Mike.

P.S.  LTTP's given me probs this morning.  Friday isn't weekend.

A bit more of a rant  :)  why not  ???

I know it is free, and I am grateful for that  :-*

but..... If they would just put some explanation on the site when it is having problems,

maybe some bright spark would be able to say

" I know how to deal with that, I will volunteer a few hours to sort it for them"

ever the optimist  ;D   Eilleen.

Also the Library gave Lincoln uni the right to upload "The Echo" etc including after 1911

but they are sitting on them  ??? ??? ??? ???  that was another rant  ;)

I do hope they don't sit on them for long..... I find the microfiche copies at the library so difficult to read and can only look for about 20 mins before i have to give up!

I'm in agreement with you there Jo. The microfiche at the Central library is so poor, I presume from so much use. I found the quality of the Chronical and Mercury on FindMyPast to be excellent, trouble is since their so called 'Improved Site' was introduced last month I've decided not to renew my subscription. So I'm up the proverbial.  ::)
