Hello Tim
We need to see these as scans out of the album.

I'd have a stab at 1870-ish, perhaps earlier. but I'm sure I'll be corrected.

Unfortunately I don't own the photos - a cousin does - so I don't have better scan of them at this time.  She informed me there is no writing on them whatsoever including photographer or studio information.  I believe they're tintypes as she said they are on a thin tin-like material.  They each measure 2.5" X 3.5"

AJ100 - Which picture in particular would you say is 1870-ish?

Thanks!!
Tim

I'd bet AJ saw the one recognizable feature...some frills on a lady's skirt...and went for 1870s.

As for the rest of them, they are literally the size of postage stamps and no detail is visible. The first and third ones are completely glared out. We need to see a full-sized scan of every one. Tell your cousin they won't be damaged by sliding them out of the page frames, and any photo that isn't a tintype we'd like to see the back as well.

I'd say it would be worth the effort because tintypes were often done by itinerant photographers without fancy studios and props, and the results can be a charming slice of social history :)

Cheers,
China

I'd guess the top four are 1870-1880 with the girl on the swing maybe a year or two into the 1890's.
Don't know anything about backs of photos and not very much about fashion, I just say what the photo tells me.
