Hi, I am looking for any information/photos of my Husband's Grandfather Robert Lamond who born in Peterhead, Scotland 15/08/1909. His mother was Isabella Lamond of Peterhead who had 3 other children at the time of his birth and his father was unnamed. Robert was at the Salvation Army Farm 'Hadleigh Farm' in Essex at around 16/17 years old He emigrated to New Zealand in 1927 where her worked on several farms in the North Island. He served for New Zealand in WWII and was killed in action in Crete. Details as follows:
Name: Robert Lamond
Army No: 4952
He was in the 2nd NZEF, 1st echelon, 19th Battalion.
Robert's son was born in New Zealand in 1939 and was adopted out so neither he or his son (my husband) have ever seen what Robert looked like so we were hoping someone may have a photo with him in as there were no official soldier photos taken. Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Naomi

Have you found him in the 1911 census? The Scottish censuses are available to search on scotlandspeople website. Please read the guidelines on rootschat regarding posting information on possible living people. There is also a post on how to optimise your searches on scotlandspeople. It is very useful. Do you have information on his mother, Isabella? Did she die when robert was young, perhaps?

Robert's mother (as "Mrs L Lamond") is listed as his next of kin on his cenotaph record:
http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/databases/Cenotaph/28339.detail?Ordinal=1&c_serialnumber_search=4952&c_surname_search=lamond
Naomi might already be aware of that listing. The L may just be a mistranscription.

Greetings
Perhaps the Waiouru Army Museum in New Zealand at:- www.armymuseum.co.nz
might be worth an inquiry.
Archives NZ might also have a Probate / Will then there is the NZDF (New Zealand Defence Force) at Trentham where there will certainly be a service file.
Just idle thoughts
