Title: Marriage-September 1900-New Forest, Hampshire,
Post by: mapacaja on Sunday 23 March 14 02:17 GMT (UK)
Hi, On the Free BMD marriages there is a marriage for Elizabeth Whitehorn, volume 2b page 1411, together with four other people. The four other people appear on the 1901 Census for Hampshire, with their relative partners, but I cannot trace WHO married Elizabeth Whitehorn.  Before sending for a marriage certificate, is there some way I can find out who she married ?? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, kind regards, Maurice H..

Hi again, if she is the Elizabeth born c 1877 Minstead, then in 1901 she is married to a Walter Fythian, in the household are Whitehorne relatives at Emery Down, Minstead Census Ref RG13/1050/54/1

Looking at births etc think surname is also spelt FITHYAN

Hi Keyboard 68, Thanks for your prompt reply, My Elizabeth was born Elizabeth Jane Peach, 1857 Yeovil, Somerset, she married a Frank Whitehorn 1889, in South Stoneham, Hampshire, Frank deceased in 1974, and I cannot trace her after this date anywhere ? There are various Elizabeth Whitehorn, marrying, but I have excluded all with the exception of the one for September 1900.  Elizabeth had a daughter whilst married to Frank Whitehorn, a Elizabeth Jane Whitehorn, born South Stoneham 1890, she is shown on the 1901 Census with her Grandmother Jane Whitehorn, and then she is lost.  I can only assume that her mother re-married and the daughter then took her mother's new married name....Any further suggestions ?? thanks, Maurice H..

Hi again Maurice, the Jane Whitehorn you have as Grandmother to Elizabeth Jane b 1890 is she the 73 year old b Minstead in 1901?

If not can you provide details of the household Elizabeth J Whitehorn is in?

:) Thought so, So are you saying the Elsie b c 1888 Southampton is her, as their is an Ellie in 1891 who fits the bill, with Jane aged 63 RG12/926/112/33

Hi Keyboard 86, m'interesting, maybe the 1901 is NOT the young Elizabeth Jane ?? She is in fact shown on the 1891 Census with her parents, RG12, piece 926, folio 33, page 3, your comments please ? regards, Maurice H..

Hi

There are various links between Whitehorn / Cull / Broomfield families around Minstead / Lyndhurst

Elizabeth CULL "could" be Elizabeth WHITEHORN ?

Just repeating for "clarity" . . . . .
The Fredk FITHYAN marriage ref has been entered as NF 1900 Q3 2b 1401.
NF 1900 Q3 2b 1411 is Elizabeth WHITEHORN
NF 1900 Q3 2b 1411 is also Elizabeth CULL
NF 1900 Q3 2b 1409 is Minnie Eliza BROOMFIELD

NF 1898 Q3 2b 1375 is Walter Fithyan / Bessie Whitehorn ( as per KB86 1901 census? )
[ Walter F would appear to be George Whitehorn's nephew, 1901 census  ]

Hi Glen

Yes, as that is the onlyy ref with the two names then that knocks him out for me.

Adds a little weight, albeit temporary, to Cull=Whitehorn ?

Although there are 50 people listed on freebmd for New Forest Sept qtr 1900 only 24 are male, 26 are female.
The entry for Alice Shilton has been wrongly indexed (should be Newbury) making it 25 female and a total of 49 people.

I suspect that the one missing entry for this quarter is probably who you are after  :-\

Thanks to all of your replies to my query, I think Rosie has the correct answer, that is a missing link on the September 1900 Census for Elizabeth Whitehorn.
All of the other suggestions did not work out, as after checking future Census records none show any married to an Elizabeth, born Yeovil abt 1857, thanks to all for your help, I will have to send for a copy of the September 1900, marriage certificate, and see who is the lucky guy ??

Kind regards to all, Maurice H...

"All of the other suggestions did not work out, as after checking future Census records none show any married to an Elizabeth, "
Surely with 2 out of the 3 ladies mentioned as being on the list of marriages are named Elizabeth, then one (of 2 you say) on the census should be named Elizabeth? Or how can you then discount anyone?

Would you quote the census refs where you have found the 2 men?

Hi

My point is that Eliz,Cull could be her maiden name and Eliz.Whitehorn could be (prev) married name.
(or vice versa)

I would agree with Ray that this is also a possibility, however I have not found a Cull/Whitehorn marriage that fits.  There are five names listed on that entry I thought that at that time there were only 4 to a page.   :-\

However :-)

If it is being said that "Elsie" is a possibility . . . .

There is an Elsie May Jane W aged 23 in Portswood (b "1888")
who marries Dec 1923 Southampton 2c 42 Elsie M J WHITEHORN / Percival Wright
This reg covers Portswood

Hi

" I have not found a Cull/Whitehorn marriage "

No, neither have I.  :-)

I just did not want an avenue closed without proof/real answer.

Hi

As per freebmd 1900 NewForest Q3 2b 1411

There is a tree on Anc..... saying that ELIZABETH CULL married George Long
(1901 New Forest Lyndhurst RG13 D2 Pce1050 F23 P16 sch#100)

The other marriage would seem to be GeoTMills / MaryJGreen
(1901 New Forest Lyndhurst RG13 D3 Pce1050 F39 P2 sch#9)
