Good Afternoon and Welcome to the forum
Found him on trove in 1856 South Australian Register
Michael Geoghan
He's appealing for funds and is married with six children 29.7.1856
He has been ill for 2 years and arrived 15 years ago
On the 27.11.1847 he was a Michael Graghan bullock driver accused of assault near Kangaroo hotel Stuart Road, also south Australian Register.
Possible marriage 22.6.1846 NSW
Micheal Gallighan 34 life permission to marry
Mary Burke 16 came free.
Surname a bit iffy but right age for Micheal if not Mary.
This guy is pardoned two years latter 10.7.1848 and it mentions he came from West meath and was committed for Horse stealing 14.3.1829.There is also a description of him. 5 ft 31/2 inches ruddy and freckled, dark brown hair, brown eyes and scar under outer corner of each eye.
It also doesn't fit with when he arrived as this man arrived in 1836.
Sorry but that's all I have.

Hullo Nozza...
Going off the previous three posts of name and birth place I have come across two baptism records in County Westmeath in Ireland in the period 1815 =+/- 5 years.
A Michael Geighagan b1815 and a Michael Geoghagan b1809. I have no credits to view the full files which can be purchased by logging onto.

I don't know if there is a connection but a couple of very accomplished Racing drivers operated around australia from the 1950's to the 1970's. Leo & Ian (Pete) Geoghegan. I had the pleasure of meeting and competing against Pete during the 1960's, unfortunately he passed away in 2003.
As it is not a common name there could be a tie in ???

Nozza it does help if you give all the information you have about the family to save us spending time searching. Every little bit of information helps.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=679238.0
I also suggest you post the Australian requests for help to the Australian board not the Beginners and write the name of the family in uppercase in the topic heading.
I asked a moderator to move your request.
All helps us to help you :).
Cheers :)
