Title: John Robinson
Post by: dianat on Saturday 15 March 14 03:06 GMT (UK)
My ggg grandfather was John Robinson born in 1789 and died in 1831 in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.  He married Sarah in Islington, London in 1811.  I am trying to find parents of both.  Does anyone know how I can do this despite trying just about everything possible.  Because I don't know where either were born I can't get a birth certificate.  Any ideas please?

The parish register entry of the marriage unfortunately doesn't show father's names! :(

27th October 1811, at St Mary, Islington

John Robinson to Sarah Hackie/Hackice    both of this parish.

You won't find any birth certificates, because they only came into being at the start of Civil Registration on 1st July 1837 ;D
And to find the parish register entries of christenings, you need to know which parish?! :-\

There are some possibilities for John's christening?

8th Nov 1789 at Great Budworth, Cheshire
2nd Feb 1789 at Brighton, Sussex
24th June 1789 at Chertsey, Surrey
28th June 1789 at Finningley, Nottinghamshire
29th December 1789 at Owston, Yorkshire
12th Sep 1789 at Hull, Yorkshire
4th Oct 1789 at Temple Sowerby, Westmorland
16 Dec 1789 at Tuxford, Nottinghamshire
2 Aug 1789 at Westminster, London (John Robert Adolphus)

And more in 1788, 1790 etc!

Thank you for your reply.  The Church where John Robinson and Sarah Hackice were married was St. Marys, Islington, North London.

I found out yesterday that I couldn't get any birth certificates for this couple because of the date prior to 1837 but I am considering looking for a death certificate for Sarah, my ggg grandmother although she re-married after John Robinson died and I doubt whether I will learn anything about her marriage to John and her maiden name since her name became Tarry after her 2nd marriage.
Thank you for any suggestions.

My apologies.  I realize that you already know its St., Marys, Islington.

John Robinson was born in January 1789, I believe but where is the mystery at this stage.

He was also buried in 1831 at St. Marys, Chehsunt.

Death certificates from England/Wales don't hold any family information! :(

Apart from the informant - who may, or may not, be a relative.

Thank you Mr Garrard for your information.  It looks more unlikely that I shall ever find out the parents of John Robinson and his wife Sarah Hackice.

Kind regards
