Hi RC'ers
I'm trying to work out the name of the second witness
Appears that the first witness is Henry Shetelworth
Second person is a member of the Gilson family but which one?
(I have a possibility in mind but would like confirmation)
Thanks

OK first into bat, first thoughts as it looks to begin with an "A" is something like Aron?
Will keep a close eye on this one!!

Thanks keyboard86 - Aron's not a name I have on my list of possibilities but it could be right.
Shame he/she has such a bad challenging signature
-
I wondered if it was Tom.....but when I look again I think I see Sara.?

I see Saml - Samuel
:-\
-
Looks like "Frank" to me.
-
Thanks for your ideas
I thought it was Saml as well but the more I look at it I'm now unconvinced.
When enlarged, that first letter doesn't look like a "S" to me
Frustrating
-
The first letter is shaped in a similar way to the S in Shetelworh, and I'm seeing an a or an o and an m after it:

I see the second letter as "o" as it loops upwards....the first as either an "S" or could it be a "T"...Samuel does sound like a good bet but I don't see the second letter as being an "a" but I could be wrong.

Can't decide whether it's an o or an a, Carol, but it could be an a and a funny forward bit on the m
like this - ~m
:-\
PS - Di - do you have or can you find a Samuel Gibson around that time?
-
Could it be Janet ??? ???
-
I wondered about Ernest........but then enlarging it didn't make it any clearer for me.

I do have a Samuel GILSON - brother of the groom in this marriage - and that's why I thought this could be his signature :-\
Thanks for possibilities to date ... I've been assuming this is a gent's signature but of course it could be a lady as per suggestions.
The groom had the following siblings: Sarah, Samuel, Rachel & Jacob (if I have the right family :P )
Can't see any of those names in this signature (except for the "maybe" Sam'l )
Still guessing ...

Finally found a marriage for the (maybe) brother Samuel and it appears that luck may have been on my side as brother John was a witness.
Assuming that Samuel was a witness on the first marriage and Groom on the second - do you think the two signatures are for the same person?
(allowing for the fact that they were done 5 years apart)

Thanks Coco - you may be right. Both signatures certainly appear similar and hopefully they belong to the same person.

I'd say it's definitely the same hand, Di - the surname is practically identical. The ink is a bit smudgy in the Saml one!

Looks like a truncation of Samuel to me...

Many thanks Gadget & 1pds
I couldn't believe my luck when I found the Samuel's marriage and the signatures appeared so much alike. Thought it might have been wishful thinking on my part for a while but pleased to read that you agree. 8)
Thanks all - I appreciate everyone's thoughts and assistance :-*
