Title: Death Lookup For CHRISTINA HERON
Post by: petbro on Friday 14 March 14 19:54 GMT (UK)
Looking for death listing for my Grt Grandmother, Christina Heron, in Canada.

Here's what I know:

Born Jan 1890
Moved to Canada 1958
Passed away in 1980's in a nursing home.

I don't know where in Canada she lived, but hopefully there won't be too many C. H's deaths around this time.

Thanks
Peter

Was Christina from Scotland?

If so - she is shown as a housewife aged 63 and left Glasgow for Canada on 2.5.1953 aboard the Corinaldo bound for Montreal.  Address 3 Belleisle St Glasgow

The end column of the list says that her country of future permanent residence was Scotland whereas all other entries show Canada.  It gives the impression that she intended returning.

There is a return entry on 29.11.1953 - address the same as on the outgoing journey

Canada does not have a central registry for BMDs as it is a provincial jurisdiction. As well privacy laws vary from province to province regarding who can access registrations from that time period.

From looking at the Canada Voters List, in 1972 there is a Christina Heron (widow) at the same address as Daniel Walker, Mrs. Christina Walker and Miss Leaus Walker in Leeds, Ontario. In 1974, there is a Christina Heron listed in Kingston, Ontario with the address being Providence Manor. Providence Manor is a long-term care home for seniors. If this is your Christina, Ontario's privacy laws restrict access to death registrations from this time period to next-of-kin.

You could try contacting the Kingston Frontenac Public Library (http://www.kfpl.ca/using-the-library/ask-a-librarian (http://www.kfpl.ca/using-the-library/ask-a-librarian)) or the Kingston Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society (http://www.ogs.on.ca/kingston/index.php (http://www.ogs.on.ca/kingston/index.php)) to see if they can help.

There is also an outgoing UK passenger list for the Sylvania which has Christina with that same address. The Sylvania departed from Liverpool on 7 Mar 1958 and was destined for New York. The entry says her intended permanent residence was Canada.

Jacquie

edit: see you have that already

Hi Jacquie

Thanks for all the info. Yes, the details matches correctly all the details my late grandmother gave me. I just cant remember the year in which she passed away. I'll check with the link you provided.

PS: I have Premium Ancestry, so can't search Canada. Had 'World' last year.

Don't think World Membership would help you on this - as Jacquie said Canada does not have a central registry for BMDs as it is a provincial jurisdiction and also there are restrictions on who can gain access to that information.

Was your great-grandmother the Christina Anderson who married (as his second wife) George Morrow (or Murray) Heron in Glasgow in 1920?  If this is the same person then we are (very distant) cousins and I would be very interested in getting in touch.
