I cannot find his records on Findmypast.

Wittebergen is a battle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_South_Africa_Medal
I would guess that his number was issued c1892-3

Hi, my Aunt gave me the details, most records seem to be from WW1 or WW2 very hard to find anything on the Boer War.

I'm also very interested in Boer War records. I can't seem to find anything that has birth dates or even locations. They just have names on what I can find. When dealing with a somewhat common name this is very frustrating. Does anyone know where to get enlistment or casualty records with birth dates or even birth city/county?
thanks

Surviving records are on Findmypast if he was discharged up to 31st December 1913. Or on Ancestry if after that date. These records give age on enlistment, place of birth and next of kin.
Medal rolls and casualty lists only give initial of forename, so are not much good for a common name.

I appreciate the info - so if they were killed in the war I will only find the name and that's it?

Probably yes, as the records of soldiers dying while serving, before WW1, were not kept.
But you could always try nonmilitary sources such as his local newspaper and his local Boer War memorial. These vary in the information given. But some give regiments.
Time to post his name, age, place of birth. Plus anything else you have that makes you believe he served in the army.

No obvious matches in the Regular or Militia records on Findmypast. As regards the Boer War medal rolls on Ancestry I stopped counting at 40 P Kennedys listed for example. Without information pointing to a regiment there is really no way forward.
