Title: Mathew/Patrick Thomas - Galway
Post by: kevmac90 on Saturday 08 March 14 17:57 GMT (UK)
My 3x great grandfather was Mathew (Matt) Thomas.  According to death records of 2 of his sons, Mathew was born in Wales.  But, when the 2 sons, Mathew and Patrick emigrated, possibly with their mother Mary Conway around 1860-1863, they listed their birth as Ireland, specifically Galway.

It appears the Thomas family was in Glann, Oughterard, Galway and that both Mathew and Patrick were born there (not certain - but it appears so).

Question - was it common from Welsh families to relocate to Ireland, specifically Galway?  Might he have been a soldier or a seaman?  Any guesses/help appreciated.

Thx
