Title: lost canadian lightkeeper
Post by: Alister on Wednesday 05 March 14 21:36 GMT (UK)
George Ross Snetsinger died may 30 1951, Vancouver B.C.  One of his sisters, Mrs. A. W. Whitelaw,
Los Angeles came up to bury him.  He was born in Aultsville, Ontario Apr 13, 1888.
Aultsville was one of a number of small places 'drowned' when the St. Lawrence Seaway was constructed.
His father: Donald Hugh Snetsinger, born Ontario.  Mother Bertha Snetsinger nee Meeker, born Aultsville.      I do know all Snetsingers in Canada are descended from family who came over the border after the American Revolution(War of Independence,)  & settled in Cornwall Ont.

George was a lightkeeper on Cape St. James, Queen Charlotte Islands 1939-40.  died unmarried.

Have contacted a number of Snetsingers in B.C. but no-one knows of George Ross.

Hi Alister:

What kind of information were you hoping to find about him? I'm assuming you already know his parents also lived in BC and his father, at least, died in BC.

His death certificate can be found here:
http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy/DisplayGenealogyImage?k=703af281-bcf2-4b11-894a-eda7595dbe67

It appears after he left the lighthouse he moved to Vancouver and became a laundyman.
