Hi Jan

 Thank You

The Mary Marsh in Bridgegate is my 2 X Great Grandmother ( I have a copy of this also found her on the 1851 census ) She married a Thomas Turner  her sister Caroline also married a Turner one of the sons from  the Turner family from St Peters  I was hoping they may be the same families but my Thomas Turner on the 1871  and 1881 census in Rotherham states he was born Coventry Warwick  Mary Marsh and Thomas Turner had  6 children all born Derby  The Daughter of these two Caroline Turner my Great Grandmother was baptized aged 19 in Rotherham just before she married . Cannot find any baptisms for any of the other 5 children  It gives the date of birth for Caroline on her baptism but the register office can find no record of it in Derby   They  should be on the 1861 census for Derby but i have been through the whole of the 1861 and cannot find them  .

This is the info from the 1871 Census

Hi Lorraine, Better late than never. Please find below may data on James Turner.

James Turner was born in Derby around 1801. He married Hannah Parker (Christened 27 Jul 1803 Uttoxeter Staffs). This may not have been his first marriage. Hannah died in Derby in 1871. Thomas their son was born  about 1821 (hence was it James first marriage) He married Caroline Marsh in Derby in 1848 and is record in the 1851 census. He died in Derby around 1855. I have more data and census data if you require. James is my 3rd great grandfather.
I would be interested to know your relationship with the family.
Dave.

Hi Dave

Caroline Marsh is my 2X grandmothers sister  Mary Ann Marsh

Mary Ann Marsh married a Thomas Turner but i could never find the marriage they had 7 children in Derby  which i could not find . In 1871 they were living in Rotherham Yorkshire . As Turner.

After many years of searching they turned out to be Rowbotham's not Turner when they moved to Rotherham they changed the surname to Turner (Still have not found out why yet usless he did something naughty). But I have positive  prove.

Now have the marriage and birth cert for the missing children under Rowbotham

They must have chosen the Turner surname because of the sister Caroline and her husband  who they lived near and looks like they were a close family as my Mary Ann was born at the same address as Caroline was living at on John street Derby in the 1851 and 1881 census

I Have info on the Marsh side Caroline  Etc  but not the Turner's as they are only connected as it turns out by Marriage .

Caroline Marsh was born on the 21-1-1824 and was Bapt on the 15-2-1824 at Bosall Derby they were not church of england

Her parents were Richard Marsh and Eliza Goodman who married at Bonsall

RICHARD MARSH SOJOURNER OF THIS PARISH AND ELIZA GOODMAN SOUJOURNER OF THIS PARISH MARRIED ON THE SECOND DAY OF SEPTEMBER 1823 RICHARD MARSH X HIS MARK AND ELIZA GOODMAN  WITT JAMES MARQUEEN AND ABRAHAM HURST
have more info on these 2
Regards Lorraine

Thanks for that Lorraine.

I know that Eliza Goodman came from St. Georges in London according to census records and that is like looking for a needle in a hay-stack.

I don't think the Richard Marsh was a local boy either as the 1841 census does not quote a place. (Space left blank) He died around 1844. I think he was born around 1785 to 1789 but so were a lot of other Richard Marshs.

Have any additional info on Richard?

Regards

Dave.
