Hi,
I have found a death of a Maria Ellison who died at Prescot, Lancashire in 1929.
For sometime now we have been trying to find what happened to our Maria Ellison who was born at Portsmouth, Hampshire, her Mother Judith Ellison moved back to Lancashire and she was found at the Manchester Workhouse in 1841 census. However no sign of Maria Ellison aged 5 years then, nor any other children. No sign of a death or marriage for Maria, other than the above.
So now am beginning to think that this may be our Maria Ellison, she was born in 1836 and this would place her in her 90's (her elder sister Harriet Ellison lived to 92 years of age)
Just need to see if someone can assist with Parish Records, so we can identify her parents

Any parish/burial record of her death will not show her parents names. The Maria Ellison who died in 1929 was 97 so b 1832 and I suspect she may be the Mary Ellison b 1832 shown on the 1901/1911 as living in St Helens
Members of the public do not have access to death cert info so you would have to buy a copy to get any further info
However no sign of Maria Ellison aged 5 years then
Presume you got her details from a Family Search entry but could she have died pre-1837?

Thanks for that, I guess I was thinking of births in the parish register, which do show parents names, as I recently got information for a relative in 1890. Forgot that deaths don't show that.
Never mind.
I don't have access to Ancestry at the moment, can you tell me more on the Mary Ellison as living in St Helens for those dates you mention, 1901. If it shows birth place as Hampshire, maybe this could be our Maria.
We do have a sister Mary Ellison b. 1828, but she died same year.
This is quite a mixed up family , 5 children born in Manchester, baptised at Manchester Cathedral, next one William born in Enniskillen Ireland (have birth certificate) in 1831, then Maria born 1836 at Portsmouth. Father Lawrence Ellison was initially a Porter with the Railways, then joined the Army around 1830, it seems his wife Judith joined him on two occasions, resulting in these two births, but Lawrence died in 1845 at Portsmouth. Mother Judith Ellison was living on her own by 1841 census, in the Workhouse.
If we could find Maria maybe in a Workhouse, we might get a better picture of what happened to Judith's young children.

Have you seen the record on Family Search 1841 census.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MQG3-XWJ
The same record is on FindMyPast Index
It's not as far as I can see on Ancestry.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for that, no I hadn't seen that census information. Do we have an address.
Greengate seems a logical address

Sorry, the address is impossible to read, think it's something like Pr... Lane. Salford.
Perhaps someone who knows the area could possibly help. ???

Hi Jan,
Just found this on Ancestry, Lawrence Ellison Porter married on the 14th May 1820 to Judith Clayton. At St John, Manchester, Lancs. FHL File No 1545637. Both of this parish. Married by banns. Witness looks like William Seetdon he signed with an X. Hard to read his handwriting.
Also found Maria Ellison bap 12 Aug 1836 to Lawrence Ellison and Judith. Portsmouth
Harriet Ellison bap 7th Feb 1830 Manchester. St Marys, St Denys and St George to Lawrence Ellison and Judith. He was a Private - Soldier
In 1911 Harriet was living in Manchester 81 yrs old Single born Manchester.
Found other children born to Lawrence and Judith but unfortunately no date of birth.
Elizabeth, Sarah, James and I think a Lawrence.
When I get time I will look some more for you.
Hope any of this helps.
Did you send for Lawrence death certificate because there is another Lawrence living in Portsea, I wondered about Judith living in a workhouse in 1841, without Lawrence. Maybe there is another death for Lawrence.
Cheers.

Jan,
Hi thanks for that, yes all you have researched is our family. I do have a death certificate for Lawrence Ellison who died at Portsea. I am not at home at the moment, and need to confirm the details on Lawrence's death certificate. You are saying that there is another one that died there.
Will be in contact in a few days to give you more details on that. We do think we have the right one though.
