Seeking information on Ann Washington Supposed to have been born in Luton 1857 ???. I cannot find her on any record before 1871. On the 1871 census of Robert and Mary Ann Reeve ( nee Jakes) she states Mary Ann is her mother which is not right as Ann is eleven years younger than Mary Ann who was born 1846 in Luton. Robert and Mary Ann were married in Luton 1867. I received information from a woman who said she was a Gypsy is this the reason I cannot find her ???.
Ann married Thomas Oakley in 1877 in Luton. Ann died in 1900 Luton.

Do you have Ann's marriage certificate to Thomas Oakley which should name her father?
The 1871 census states that Mary Ann aged 25 was born in Coventry, not Luton. No, in 1871 Ann doesn't state that Mary Ann was her mother. What 1871 says is that Ann was the daughter of the head of the household, Robert Reeve. Which might just about be possible as Robert was 30, but the name's wrong.
There are Washington births in Luton from 1843 onwards, including a Mary Ann in 1847, but there's also a death of Mary Ann Washington in 1848. Might Mary Ann Jakes have been Mary Ann Washington? Was there some other family relationship between Mary Ann and Ann Washington?

A tree on Ancestry has the PR Marriage entry.
It shows Ann was 19 (so born c1858?) and her father was named as Thomas.

Of course the explanation for 1871 might be something very mundane, such as an enumeration error, and Ann should have been described as servant, rather than ditto for daughter. Her age is out of order for her to have been a daughter. And Robert, as a straw hat manufacturer, might well have had a servant.
And Mary Ann seems pretty confused as to her birthplace - in 1861 as Mary Ann Jakes it was Luton, then Coventry, and in 1881 Thame Oxfordshire!
Can't find Thomas, or Ann, Washington in 1861 though
