Title: Catholic baptism Stonehouse/Devonport father was a soldier
Post by: Shonagh on Tuesday 25 February 14 14:22 GMT (UK)
This is a big vague so apologies for that!  I am looking for Joseph Hadley (or Adley) who was born in Devonport/Stonehouse in 1826.  His father was John Hadley of Sligo and he had been  in the Army, serving in Canada and the Peninsular War.  I think he might have been in the hospital in Devon as he had ongoing illnesses following his discharge.  Joseph was definitely born down there and I am hoping there will be a catholic baptism for him.  If anyone can look this up for me I would be grateful.  I have about exhausted my search.

Thanks

You might try contacting the Diocese at http://www.plymouth-diocese.org.uk/ to see if any registers have survived.

Thank you.  I already wrote to them but they didn't reply.  I might phone them, if I dare!  I think perhaps they get too many requests.  I learnt from the archives that the Catholic Church had retained had all surviving Catholic Records.

Thank you.
