ohn Hadley and Mary Shea McFarlane 8 August 1849
Yorkshire BMD just shows her as Shea as does freebmd
John Patrick Hadley and Ruth Slipper Oldridge April/May/June 1886
Where did you get 1886 from? See freebmd - it was 1904 and he was just John Hadley

Mary was Mary Shea McFarlane for sure and I know that the index states just Mary Shea but I was asking for the catholic marriage record and not the GRO record.
John Patrick Hadley and Ruth did marry in 1886 for sure an all an all. In the Catholic Church in Jarrett Street. There are lots of Hadleys and the later marriage to which you refer is another John Hadley, not John Patrick's.
I have the GRO marriages. It is possible that the church records will not tell me any more but I inherited a couple of catholic marriage records from another part of the country and they listed not only the fathers names but also the grandfathers names and even more interesting - where they came from in Ireland.
I have a catholic baptism that lists the Godparents.
I daresay it depends on the priest but it's worth a shot. Irish family history is so difficult. Without knowing where they came from it's like looking for a John Smith in England somewhere.
I do know where John Hadley the elder came from though as I have his army records from Canada and the Peninsular Wars.
I will look at the links tomorrow, thank you.
Thanks for your input.

So where is the 1886 entry and reference on freebmd? There is no John Hadley marriage in any county in the June qtr 1886 freebmd.rootsweb.com
As John Patrick Hadley was only born in 1884 and Ruth was only born in 1886 - it sort of makes an 1886 marriage improbable doesn't it? See freebmd for birth registrations for both. Only one birth reg for a Ruth Slipper Oldridge
Have you checked the 1911 census where he is shown as John Patrick?

Catholic baptism / marriage / burial Records are not that readily available on line yet.
Most voluntary researchers only have access to a subscription site and whatever Parish records are licensed / purchased and placed on the site, freebvmd .org.uk and sites such as yorkshirebmd.org.uk / familysearch.org together with ant other free to use site they know of.
You could check the Army records or even the local Record Office to see if they hold the records. this info
If you are failing to get the record via the Catholic 'Diocese' others like myself will also struggle.
Your best option is to purchase the entry from www.gro.gov.uk this is £9.25 sterling per certificate
