Title: John Ledger d. 21 Dec 1779 - St Swithun's, East Retford, Nottinghamshire
Post by: Ledge on Monday 24 February 14 20:46 GMT (UK)
Hi guys,

I've hit a wall on my family tree and am looking to find any records I can on this person, in particular any records of his christening and parents of course.

The only records I have so far are the following:

Marriage -
St Michael the Archangel - West Retford - 25th Feb 1745
John LEDGER & Hannah BAILEY

Burials -
St Swithin, East Retford;
HANNAH Ledger, Wife of JOHN, 12 December 1777
JOHN Ledger, 21 December 1779

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated - I'm not getting any responses in the Nottinghamshire section as I think it's a bit quiet.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi

There are a couple of documents that mention John & Hannah Ledger on this site.

http://mss-cat.nottingham.ac.uk/DServe/dserve.exe

http://mss-cat.nottingham.ac.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Roles&dsqCmd=Search

I'm not sure if the original document will hold any more information or the other people named on the document.

Have you seen a copy of the original marriage entry for any clues ?

Carol

Hi,

Thanks for this. I'll have a look when I get home.

A kind person on here found the marriage document for me and said this:
"The marriage information came from the Nottinghamshire Family History indexes, not all years and parishes have been transcribed yet."

I googled Nottinghamshire Family History indexes and could only find this website
http://www.nottsfhs.org.uk/

I can't find anywhere to search for a document on there though?!?

Hi

The Nottinghamshire family history society have produced a CD with Baptisms, marriages & burials.
It is only an index and there are no other details on the marriages apart from names, dates and parishes.
You can order a copy of the CD by going into their website, then into shop.  There is a new version coming out on 1st March.

There's nothing on the present disc. I have actually been to the university and viewed docs for my ancestor, one he had written 1833 and I could handle them, it was brilliant.

Am I right in assuming that if the old disc doesn't have anything the new one won't either?

Hi Geoff,

Great to hear from you.

I haven't looked at my tree in a while but have the same as you, which is good to know. Unfortunately, I've got no further than John Ledger d 1779 (FreeREG).

I also have him marrying a Hannah Bailey - a kind member on here found this on the Nottinghamshire Family History indexes.

Other records have Gervase Ledger down as Jarvis and Jonas! Gervase had six children - Lucy, Polly, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha and James.

I have Thomas Bailey marrying a Sarah Brown in 1771 and having a child Lucy Ledger who died at 3 (1771-1774). I then have him marrying an Ann Pearson in 1777 and having 5 children - Edward, Betty, Thomas, William and Edmund.

Are you on Ancestry? If so, I can invite you to view my tree.

James

Hi James,
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately i am not on Amnesty,i let my membership lapse a few years ago,i have used FreeREG as well as a couple of other sites to find my way around,
I have John having 3 children--Francis,Thomas and Gervase,
Thomas is my GGGG grandfather,iv'e only found  4 children---Edmund,Betty,Thomas and William,do you know what year Edward was born,i have a possible ref of birth 1785,died 1805,any further help on this would be most helpful,
Thomas is my GGG grandfather,he had 4 children---Ann,Edward,Frederic and Louisa
Edward is my GG grandfather,he had 8 children,Emma,Walter,Edward,Frederick,Alfred,William and Walter, one Walter and one William both died in infancy,
Alfred is my G grandfather he had 1 child,Sydney
Sydney is my grandfather and he had 5 children,Emily,Suzy,Noel,Maxwell and Graham
Noel is my farther,

I did find a christening for a John Ledger but the date was 1688,a little early for our John i think,
I will have to look at renewing my membership with Amnesty so i can check out your tree.
Cheers,
Geoff.
