Title: McAllester/McAllister
Post by: dodgesu on Wednesday 22 June 05 04:13 BST (UK)
Looking for birth and family of John MCALLESTER, born about 1698 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
He married Jennet CALDWELL also of Northern Ireland, about 1718.
They sailed to America, and settled in Worcester County, Massachusetts, where most of their children were born.  Any help  finding more information on either the MCALLESTER/MCALLISTER or CALDWELL lines will be appreciated.

Hello dodgesu,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. I have my doubts about your chances of finding many Church records in the early eighteenth century.

The dates listed in the first post are probably too early for church records in Ireland but it's possible that more information could be found in New England records.
