I have an Abner HUNT born about 1804 at Westleton, Suffolk that I cannot find any reference to, to go back any further, if possible. On his marriage certificate in 1838 he states that his father is not living and frustratingly doesn't give a name. I am therefore wondering if anyone could possibly look up the HUNT family for Westleton, Suffolk. It could be that his family lived there and he was baptised somewhere else or that he was baptised there and the family lived somewhere else and I will have to widen my baptism search, but all avenues have drawn blanks for baptism or any information as to this family. I have their descendents, but not the ancestors. Any help for look ups would be very much appreciated. The first name Abner is somewhat unusual and as he called his 2nd son Abner I feel it might be a significant name.

Hi,
I don't know if the following is of any help, but here goes.
Source: Suffolk Family History Society
Abner HUNT was buried at Holy Trinity, Blythburgh, 31st October 1874, aged 71.
I could have checked for his wife, but you didn't give her forename/s.

Hello Many thanks for the prompt reply. I do already have his death date etc noted and his descendents are pretty well tracked and documented. I am really trying to see if I can find anything out about where Abner Hunt came from. If he was baptised and where and the two starting options are the ones I gave. I am trying to trace backwards to see if it is possible to find his parents and/or siblings (if he had any siblings), but am hoping that someone might either already know some of this information or be able to do some look ups. But thanks for the information.

Hi I looked at the Westleton parish register as this is your main thread but the fiche was illegible in many places. The original registers are held at Ipswich records office so viewing them is not an option for me.
A John and Sarah Hunt (late Fryer) are baptising children in Westleton around this time and they baptised a son on 2nd February 1803. I couldn't make out his name. On the advice of the researcher there I also checked the bishops transcripts which are filmed by hundred by year. I could see the entry but again couldn't decipher the child's name. It began with an A but didn't look much like Abner - more like Adamiah (or similar ???). I checked the bishops transcripts for 1803 and 1804 but didn't have time to trawl through them for any other years (each year being on a different roll of film).

Hi, wow! A huge huge thank you for looking up all this information and passing it on. You have no idea how much I really appreciate your doing this, so thank you.
Very interesting to note the 'possible' parents of a John and Sarah Hunt, whom I shall have to do a bit of investigating about and see if they had any other children then that I can find in the census records etc as it might give me some clues at some point. Also the late surname of Fryer for Sarah might also be worth my investigating.
Many thanks.

Hi, and a huge thank you again for this information. I especially note the fact that a John Hunt died and was buried 22 November 1840 aged 60, so I shall do some research on him and in due course order his death certificate just to see who was the informant and where they were all living, which might give a little bit of an indication to follow up some more. No mention of a Sarah Hunt in the graves though!
Great information, very helpful and gives me something else to look up/research etc. Thank you so much I really do appreciate your taking the time to look up this information for me.

Now you've said you might look into the Hunt/Fryer family of Westleton, you might want to know that I had written down another baptism from the Westleton parish register (fiche version) whilst looking for Abner.
John and Sarah Hunt late Fryer also baptised Harriot on 23rd February 1801. An extra snippet to work on.
