I am trying to trace the parents and siblings of James Richard SCHOLES (Tiger). He was born in 1890 and died in Bendigo in 1963. Married to Ethel Mary SELLWOOD.
He was the mounted policeman in Bendigo, hence his nickname (Tiger).
Who were his parents, and their parents, and where did they originate? Can anyone help me please :-
There is a line of SCHOLES from Carisbrook Vic but I can find no reference to James Richard SCHOLES listed in these names.
He was my husband's grandfather

She can be seen on the 1851 Census as a five year old with her Father William, a greengrocer born in 1824, and mother Eleanor Ann. Also there is her brother Edwin HARWOOD and 2 other relatives named MOODY aged 15 and 18.
William HARWOOD married Eleanor Ann

MOODY Eleanor Ann at Lambeth

(with William HARWOOD same page)
Sometime after the 1851 census and before the 1861 on which they do not appear, Eleanor Ann HARWOOD and her daughter Rosina Eleanor arrived in Australia. I think Edwin may have come too as there is a marriage registered in this name with the first child was William Edward HARWOOD)
ADDING It is probable father William also came to Australia, but I have not yet located information to definitely identify him here , so I remain unsure ???

FYI ;D ;D
If you are like many Australians who search their family history, you will be pleased to find a convict in the background ;D
This is the case for your James Richard SCHOLES. His great grandfather was a convict transported to Tasmania. Richard BUXTON, the father of James BUXTON, about whom I have given you some information above. Richard died in Victoria in 1869 aged 64 (#701) Richard BUXTON was an alias for his correct name Elias DYSON.
http://www.convictrecords.com.au/convicts/buxton/richard/22977
At this website you will see some interesting research. The author holds the DC for Richard BUXTON and has much to tell ;D It appears thoroughly documented.
James BUXTON gave his children names which related back to his father. Eli, Richard, Thomas to name some.
