William Byers was my oldest known ancestor born around 1779 (birth place unknown) and died in Dalkeith in 1829 aged 51 years.
William was a soldier in the 4th Regiment, Scotch Militia at Edinburgh Castle when he married a Janet Scott on 20th Dec 1800 in the Tolbooth Church.
Janet was the daughter of Adam Scott, a labourer from the parish of Yarrow.
I am looking for any information regarding William's parents and where he was born.
Any information on Janet's mother would be welcome
Anything regarding the Scotch Militia, 4th Regiment also most welcome.
Regards
