Has any one ever met a family member on here? Found some one who was researching the same family as you?

Hi, yes I have met several distant relatives on Roots who were researching their family tree, also while researching my OH tree (her Grandfather) I discovered with the help of Rootschat members that he was awarded the Military Medal in the Great war and this brought me into contact with another member who is related to my wife, they are lovely people, we even met up at a churchyard where they showed us the graves of various relatives, the sad thing is we all never knew about each other up to that day.
Frank.

Yes, I have found a few relatives on here whilst researching, including first cousins. Without the help I have received over the years from this site, I would still know hardly anything regarding both sides of my family

It depends how they are related. My understanding is that 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins etc means you from the same generation and once removed cousins are from different generations.

So your mums cousin would be your 1st cousin once removed. Cause they are your mums 1st cousins so your first cousin, but from a different generation so once removed.
Your mums cousins daughter would be your 2nd cousin, because both your parents are cousins and you are both from the next generation so you are 2nd cousins.

I hope thats right, please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks Leanne. Yes, I understand that the relationships are different, it's just that I always get mixed up when I try to remember, especially if it's a branch I haven't been working on for some time. ;D

Yes my 4th cousin twice removed.  ???  My 4 x g.grandfather was the brother of his 3 x g.grandfather.  I do know there were a couple of other distant relatives that used to come on here, but not recently, although I keep in touch with one of them off line.

Yes, well kind of because I seen someone here before me called Bernat. My surname is Bernatowicz so let's say my surname is Son of Bernat whilst his comes from the Personal name. ;)

My second cousin found me on here because she typed her grandfather's name into Google and it led her straight to a post I had made about him ( he was my great uncle). It turns out that not only do we share him as a family member but we also share a passion for traditional music and dance and have been going to the same festival as each other for many, many years!

I call that an unqualified success! ;D
