Thank you Neil, I'll make a note in my on line diary, to remind me to record the series. Looking forward to it.

Thanks Neil
That's great news! I like to record them in case I get interrupted while it is on!
Chris
-
Hope people have remembered this.
-
I've recorded it :D
Carol
-
Watched it, it somehow felt as though something was missing, I can't say exactly what but I wasn't impressed at all.
Maybe it's run it's course.
-
Well havent watched it yet, but positive I will enjoy :)
xin
-
I forgot about it, but having seen this post have just watched on iplayer, I enjoyed it :)
Rosie
-
I've recorded it to watch tonight whilst my OH is out.
-
We are on holiday in Australia. Luckily I have been able to record it remotely on the sky go app. Isn't technology wonderful!
-
is there an 'app' to refresh the brain, to keep up with all this marvellous technology. :) ;D
I cannot for the life of me get my 'tablet' to do what I want it to!!!!

-
I've just watched the programme. I think what was missing was the sense of urgency we've always been shown in the past and also none of the on the road people knocking on doors etc. Also in the case Fraser and Fraser were following up, there was no information about the deceased lady's past life which I've often found very interesting and nothing about her heirs.
I don't know if it was just this programme, or whether the BBC has decided to strip out all everything but the basic research in future.
-
Just watched it on catch-up tv. We enjoyed the programme, but would have liked a bit more information on the deceased and their families, and a bit more excitement in the race to track down heirs. I realise that detailed information on the amounts left to heirs cannot be revealed, but some kind of ball park figure to show whether the research was worthwhile would have been helpful. I'm sure we got this in previous series? Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to more episodes. ;D
-
Drat, I missed it. :( Never mind, I'll be prepared for next week's episode. :)

It's on every morning at 9.15 am.

It's on BBC I Player now if you can get it
Drat, I missed it. :( Never mind, I'll be prepared for next week's episode. :)
-
have enjoyed programmes so far, but would like a bit more info as to how they find right people.
Enjoy the stories about the family history though.
-
Thanks Jan57, I can get iPlayer. Will see if I can get chance to watch it. :)
-
Having watched today's programme, it seems the BBC has decided to concentrate more on history surrounding the deceased person, i.e. their occupations, or the clubs they went to - British Legion etc. and much less on how the heirs were found.
I must say, I preferred the original format.
-
I must say, I preferred the original format.
I agree. I wonder if it is beginning to have run its course?
-
Seem to be alone here then but I've just caught up with the first 3 episodes and really enjoyed them.
Last year I was starting to get fed up with it but so far so good in my book :)
-
I'm enjoying the series although I agree it does feel different. It also seemed a bit odd that some of the connection shots show staff who we know have retired (unless they came back) so are they using old footage? Also there was a new chap called Colin as a person who 'goes out on the road'. have you still got the regular road crew Neil?
Most irritating point for me was an aspect of the footage from the new firm they are featuring - their paper trees seem to have been stuffed into their files and are all creased up or perhaps its very weird fanfold, but I thought it looked odd - yes I'm the sort who likes nice sharp folded papers, straight lines and adjusts wonky pictures on walls ;D so that's just my personal opinion.
-
candleflame I must admit I found the staffing a little odd..........but my guess was that they were using old footage that hadn't been used previously and so could say it was new! was a bit disconcerting though.................still enjoyed it anyway
-
I'm enjoying the new series too, but I found the background music in yesterday's episode very annoying, particularly when the researchers in the Fraser and Fraser office were talking.
-
I caught this week's episode and enjoyed it. It was lovely to see the friends of the farmer who died, reminiscing about him. :)

It's on every day Roobarb,so we've had 4 already this week ;D
-
Woops! I've recorded another one so two out of five isn't too bad! ;)
-
All this weeks' episodes are on catch-up tv and they should all be on iplayer as well? So far I've seen three, (OH insisted on watching the footie midweek, so I'm one behind!) and thought they were ok, I particularly like the social history bits like the women in the ordnance factories and at the mines.
-
We have several new people on the road, as well as some old faces. We currently have about 8 staff permanently on the road that is more than most other firms have in total for their whole operation.
Hope you continue enjoying the series
Neil
-
Just about to settle down with a cup of tea and watch this morning's programme that I recorded. It is nice to see some of the new, younger people that you have working for you.
-
Neil - The programmes to date (don't know about today's I've not watched it yet) haven't shown much about the people on the road and haven't really shown much about the searches or the on road researchers visiting families etc. The progammes seem to be going more down the history route, even it seems to be asking a researcher to say, "Mr X was a coalminer, paper maker etc." so that the programme makers can then insert a few minutes on the occupations.
The other thing I've noticed is that whereas in the past, the on road researchers were sent off to get certificates and then ring in with the results, they are now being ordered (presumably on line) and the researchers just wait for their arrival the following day. The same when heirs are found, the researchers in the office send a letter regarding the heirs making a claim. Is this how things are usually done and in the past, the programme makers have urged more speed to make the programmes interesting?
-
I made a comment after the first episode that something was different and all this 'grandfather was a coal miner' 'uncle was a soldier in WW1' is the big thing that jumps out now.
The show is named HEIR Hunters not ANCESTOR Hunters. I'm sure it's nothing to do with Neil but it's either the production company or the BBC who have changed the format, maybe this format is cheaper to make, I don't know but I don't think it's a change for the better.
-
jaywit - I know it's nothing to do with Neil Fraser, but he usually knows what's going on. ::)
I'm waiting to see what he thinks of the new format - like you I don't like it.
-
I hope if you watch todays program, it will be more to your liking, this was a case that we worked on for about 2 weeks and they filmed a huge amount of research, but there was a lot of no trace results, in the end it looks like we found the birth easily, in fact we had 7 researchers and a man on the road who put in over 80 hours of research on the case. Then I had a nice day out to film some of the bits round the house. Just finding the birth was a huge achievement and I don't think there is another firm who could have solved found it.
Spoiler don't read on if you haven't watched the program
The reason I was on the road is because of the rumor was that Audrey was the daughter of the Earl of Coventry or his son, her grandfather was the stud groom on the estate (the head of the stable), that was famous for race horses, and his daughter would have certainly have known the Earl's son they were the same age. It is thought that the only reason they have the property is because the Earl brought it and gave it to the family to remove the problem, hence the name changes effectively Audrey was brought up the daughter of her grandmother, and sister to her real mother. We, however could never find any proof or anyone who really wanted to tell us this on camera.
Is this program more to your liking?
PS any one who is into family history or libraries should really visit the HIVE in Worcester it is an amazing place really enjoyed my time there looking through the old records, I found every baptism for the family apart from Audrey's most were in the small church on the estate.http://www.thehiveworcester.org (http://www.thehiveworcester.org)
-
Thanks for the explanation Neil. I've not watched that programme yet, I didn't have time yesterday and even though I read your spoiler, I guess I need to watch the programme for it to make more sense.

Neil The number of times you come across 'The father was the lord of the manor or his son' it's a regular occurrence when the mother was single and employed at the big house. The number of times you can prove it....................... almost none.
I know all the stories about aristocracy and their female servants but I suspect 99 times out of 100 it wasn't them. More likely to be another servant.
-
I was guessing that Neil might have enjoyed getting out of the office once in a while :)
-
The names of the people who bought that house should be on the Deeds. Neil, you should buy the house, check the Deeds, then do up the house and sell it at a profit!

For £2 you can check the Land registry website to find out who owns a property.
-
It's obvious from previous programmes that Land Registry is one of the first things that are checked, problem is not every property has been registered especially if it has been in the same family for many years as I guess this house has.
The deeds would perhaps make interesting reading as was covered I think yesterday but if you can't access the deeds and it wasn't registered not a lot you can do.
-
Wouldn't they be checking the Land Registry to establish whether the deceased owned the property or rented it? If you access the LR, would it show historical ownership, from when it was built, or just the present owner?
-
I very much enjoyed the programme with the mystery surrounding Audrey and the visit to Croome Court - even more so with the extra/behind the scenes information, thank you. :)
I'm sometimes struck by the thought that people have often spent their whole lives trying to keep something secret, something that can never be mentioned, only to have it all revealed. There was something of that feeling in one of the stories today too.

I know what you mean when talking about the rumor about the head of the house being the father of the maid's legit child, we hear it all the time, however this was more than the usual rumor.
The Stud Groom was the head of the stable and at Coome court this was no small job, he would have been in direct contact with the Earl and the 2 families would have been together. The Stud groom would be on par with the head butler, a position every one in the household would look up to.
We have done all we could with the property and Land Reg.
Would have been nice to show some of the other bits we found in the baptism records they were fascinating.
It also really doesn't show how hard we had to work to find the birth, it is a case that we will remember because of just how long it took to find the birth and then to find no family was such a let down. The source of this case was also different, and is where we got a huge amount of the info re the family from, but it just didn't help us find the heirs or the birth. Would have been nice to have solved this one, but it just wasn't to be.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the series.

Had forgotten about the story from todays program, just rewatched it a real sad story, needed to get the Kleenex out.
Penny was a star, I am sorry I made her cry, so sad telling her about the story of her family. A really nice person who was tollaly hooked on her story, I am sure that day down here in the office she will never forget.
-
I loved today's episode and thought myself that Penny, although so visibly upset must have had the most amazing day.
The sight of the looong family tree on your floor made me smile. Can't remember if it was Penny's or someone else's.
Oh to be young again, know what I know now.......and apply for a job with you ;D
-
Oh to be young again, know what I know now.......and apply for a job with you ;D
LOL - my OH said to me that a job with F& F would have suited me too ( the office searching, eliminating, cross referencing job, not the on the road people for me). We were clearly born too early HL ;D
-
Yes we must have been :)
I just so want to be part of it whenever I watch an episode.....but definitely not part of the on the road team.
-
I have thought the same so many times when watching it too...my OH says it would have suited me down to the ground as I am like a dog with a bone if I get my teeth into something...I don't let go until I'm satisfied that I have done the best I can do ;D ;D ;D

-
Oh excellent that there is going to to be another series as well :) :)
-
Maybe there's hope for the rest of us xin lol.
-
Yep, to spend your working life, thoroughly enjoying what you were doing - and then even getting paid for it. Wouldnt that have been great.
Nowadays couldnt keep up the pressure of time limits.
So love just researching at my own speed.
(but still jealous)

I remember seeing your request for new staff on not that long ago - although it could have been a few months, time goes so fast when you're having fun. ::)
-
Have I got it wrong - I understood that the lady from the Government said that estates stayed on the Bona Vacantia list until they were solved or for 12 years. However, in this series of Heir Hunters they have talked about hunts that they went back to after several years. Today's programme reopened a case that was started 20 years ago, and because of the new resources available they were able to find heirs. If there are only 12 years to claim, how does this happen?
-
Time limits
https://www.gov.uk/make-a-claim-to-a-deceased-persons-estate
Claims will be accepted by BVD within, generally, 12 years from the date that the administration of the estate was completed and interest will be paid on the money held.
However, BVD will admit claims up to 30 years from the date of death, subject to no interest being paid on the money held, if the claim is received after the 12 year period above has run out.

Thanks Malky, that explains it.

Crafty the way they have slipped repeats in this week.
That series went quickly, it was nice to see different faces as well.
-
Finders have been filming Series 9 (2015) for quite some time, daily at times, looking forward to much more Finders on Series 9 after hugely positive feedback on social media, thanks for watching our shows!
They're not your shows, the show is called Heir Hunters, that means all the companies whose work is shown.

I notice that Heir Hunting professionally can be expensive if you are wrong in the eyes of the law.

I am delighted that series 9 is being filmed but I was unaware that as one poster put that the show had been rejuvenated in series 8. I echo LizzieW post that the series is called ' Heir Hunters'.

Interesting because as far as I knew, once a child has been adopted out of the family, they are no longer part of that family. I suppose in this case (I remember the search for the relatives), the ones in Ukraine knew nothing about their relative, whilst his adopted daughter appeared to be in touch with him. I wonder what would have happened if he'd had more legitimate children?
-
I'm hoping for better stories in the next series. I thought the latest series was disappointing the cases just weren't interesting enough. I like the stories where people have Irish ancestry. I can't remember seeing any episodes where there was ancestors from the Isle of Man it would be nice to see any cases with Manx links. One thing I did like on the latest series was the use of stock film footage of Liverpool in 1897 by Lumière that appeared a few times.

I found this last series a bit boring.
NO Bob Smith except in the last few programmes which were repeats which was obvious as 'Grimble' retired in the last series!

As I read the newspaper article, I think the judge found in favour of the daughter because the deceased had made a gift of the house to her before his death, therefore it was no longer part of his estate which if he died intestate would go to next of kin according to rules of intestacy. So the fact that she had been adopted out of the family would not be relevant as the deceased could make whatever gifts he wished to any relatives or friends before his death.

I don't normally have the TV on in the mornings, but did so the other week and recognised someone who is in the opening credits. Don't know their name though. Any ideas how I could find out which episode they were in so that I could watch that one without having to wade through them all?
