Born 21 June 1825 no location (information from Family Bible)
Married Jane Weir 31.12.1850 at the Manse Old Monklands
Recorded living at 22 Back St. Coathill in 1851 Census. Which identified them being born in Ireland.
Travelled to Australia in 1855 on the "Northern Light" where he was listed as a Presbyterian Miner..
Have looked at the 1841 Census , but cannot find any links.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted, on research of any documentation I can access to fill in the time between the 1841 and 1851 census. :) .

Hello & welcome
Unfortunately there are no Irish census records before 1901.
Do you mean he was a Presbyterian Minister ?
to find any info you need to get their marriage entry which will give father's & mother's names .
You can download it from here for a few credits:

OK. the 1851 census says born 1829 Ireland & he's a coal miner.
Are you sure this is the right family ?

The William Elliot on the Northern Light in 1855 (with wife Jane and child Charles aged 1) is stated to be a joiner ???

No he was a miner .... not a minister.

I have look at the original passenger list and to me it looks like miner not Joiner BUT If anybody else has access to the original passenger list , not the transcription, I'm prepared to be swayed :-\ understand the script

Have just asked for a Transcript Trish, but think the information on the cert. back in those days was pretty basic....

So he died pretty young then?
7th July 1883 at Happy valley (Franklin Harbour, South Australia).

Mmm I'm not sure about S.A. Death Certs of that time.
Although living in Australia it is not my area of expertise.
Having said that I have a 1869 Victorian M/C that has Fathers names/occp's etc so you can be lucky.

His marriage entry from Scotland's People will give parents details.

I didnt suggest that because I thought the Marriage was a little early for those details. :-[

His marriage entry from Scotland's People will give parents details.
Great if it did. Here is the extract from the OPR's
24 - William Elliot , Collier , and Jane Weir , both at Rosehall in this parish, were married at Old Monklands manse on the 31st Day of December year 1850 by the Reverend John Johnston , minister of Old MonkLands. Certainly no mention of parents.
Any other place than the OPR's I can get marriage details ???. ???
-
Hi,
The couple are married 5 years too early , Statutory registration starts in 1855. The OPR will be the only record of marriage,
Looby :)

Pre 1855 marriage entries also in many cases gave both parents names but unfortunately not this one.
