Hi Maz
If you posted a photo of him in uniform someone on here might be able to help. ;)

thanks Atom,
can you please tell me how to do that

hi
you could also try looking in ancestry for either a service record but bear in mind up to 60% were destroyed in ww2 bombing raid or his medal index card but again with such a common name there may be lots of others as well , see if your local library has free access to ancestry .

To post a photo you would need to scan the photo through your printer onto your computer.
Or, with a digital camera, take a fresh photos of your old ones, then insert the SD from your camera into computer or laptop.
Then once on your computer you can edit, crop the image, etc ready for posting here.

There's 4 pages plus soldiers called C J Brown on ancestry, but to hopefully help you along I think the top 2 on the list below might possibly be the most obvious,, as they have the middle name of 'James' mentioned:

There is a plaque saying ? AOC - ?TARA - 1920 on the second photograph. AOC = Army Ordnance Corps. If he was serving after 1920 his papers will still be with the MOD.

Think the 'plaque' is actually a football.
Annette

I think it is a football and it says RAOC - Royal Army Ordnance Corps - formed 1918 so the date of 1920 underneath fits.
The word in between could be a place?
