Hi All
I wonder if some kind soul could look up these marriages for me please?
20 July 1844
Nicholas Courtnell
Harriett Hayes
And
11 Feb 1821
Nicholas Courtnell
Ann Stewart
Very elusive is our Nicholas - especially as there's a second Nicholas Courtnell born @ the same time who says he was born Whitstable, Kent but seems to also have been bap in Portsea. Most confusing.
Thanks in advance.

James 2
Harriet 1
Rebecca 20
Lawrence Hayes 82 father in law superannuated shipwright b Deptford Kent

Thanks - I've found all kinds of spellings for this family! Had managed to track them up to 1891, but having difficulty with parents because there's another Nicholas born around the same time.

Hi,
There are some transcriptions on this site:

Thanks for that - could come in useful later, but unfortunately 'my' marriages aren't there.
-
May I ask what information are you looking for with these marriages? The transcription that I have shows Ann's surname spelt the 'other' way - Stuart.
A Nicholas Horwood Courtnell was baptised at St Thomas Portsmouth in 1796. He seems to have died in 1867.

Hi Nell
I was hoping for witnesses names, & the fathers' names & occupations in the later marriage to Harriett. This may help me to confirm or disprove whether the baptism is for 'my' Nicholas.
This is 'my' Nicholas who I think died in 1867
1841 Flathouse, Portsea, Portsmouth
COURTNELL, Nicholas M 40 Hampshire blacksmith
COURTNELL, Elizth F 30 Hampshire
COURTNELL, Heny M 14 Hampshire
COURTNELL, John M 12 Hampshire
COURTNELL, Elizabeth F 10 Hampshire
COURTNELL, Rebecca F 8 Hampshire."
"1851 Maitland Street, Portsea, Portsmouth
COURTERELL, Nicholas Head Married M 52 Single Stationer (Dock Yard) Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, Harriet Wife Married F 34 Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, William Son M 8 Scholar Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, Fredrick Son M 6 Scholar Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, Edd Son M 4 Scholar Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, James Son M 2 Scholar Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, Harriet Daughter F 1 Portsea, Hampshire
COURTERELL, Rebecca Daughter Unmarried F 20 Tailoress Portsea, Hampshire
HAYES, Lawrence Father-In-Law Widower M 82 Superannuated Shipwright Deptford, Kent."
And here's Nicholas Harwood Courtnell who married Sarah Wilcox in 1843
1851 19, Pearson Street, Greenwich
COURTNELL, Nicholas H Head Married M 44 Fisherman Whitstable, Kent
COURTNELL, Sarah Wife Married F 27 Greenwich, Kent."
Assuming he's 'the' Nicholas who was bap 1796, I realise the dates are slightly out, & the Kent birth throws a spanner in the works, but the 'Harwood' in his name makes me think he might be William & Susannah's's son.

An intriguing little puzzle. I think that Ann died in 1833 - a burial is recorded in Mile End cemetery in Portsea. She was 30.
Sorry, I can't help with the other information at the moment. :(

Hi
I presume this is your problem
1. Nicholas Horwood Courtnell christening Date: 24 Jun 1796
Saint Thomas Portsmouth Parents William & Susannah
2. Marriage
Nicholas Courtnell/Ann Stuart 11.2.1821 Portsea, Hampshire but 1841 appears to show wife as
Elizabeth
3. Marriage
Nicholas Harwood Courtnell/Sarah Wilcox December qtr 1843 Lewisham 5 430
4. Marriage
Nicholas Courtnell/Harriett Hayes 20.7.1844
We have Nicholas b 1796 Portsea on 1851/61 married to Harriet and dying in Portsea 1867 aged 71
A Nicholas Courtnell died in Blean Kent March qtr 1844 - presumably the Nicholas who married Sarah Wilcox
