Seeking information on
Patrick Kilmartin of Derrydonley who died Jan 1859 farmer
Daniel Kilmartin of Coolreagh who died Feb 1872 Shopkeeper
Denis Kilmartin of Coolreigh who died May 1872 farmer
It is my understanding that Daniel was living with Patrick at the time of Patrick death.

On "Griffiths Valuation" there are two Kilmartins included, Daniel and Michael. Townland is given as Derrydolney, Barony Ballyboy, Parish Killoughy.
I cannot find any Kilmartins in Coolreagh (Cloghanhill) in Griffiths Valuation dated 1854 for this area.

There is a Michael Kilmartin at Derrydolny, Parish Killoughy in the Tithe Applotments dated 1825 (see link following)

You will see a Daniel in Derrydonley.
Also a Michael. The descendant of this Michael I think shows up on the 1901/11 census.

Take a look there especially at the older ones - don't ignore the women as some may be unmarried sisters and not widows
Then I searched on this site.
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/
You can get all sorts of detail about the holdings......they may lease land in other townlands but not occupy the house and grounds. By looking across all the entries you can see where they might have lived.
Coolreagh is in Cloghan and is some times called Cloganhill.
When looking at records for people in Kings I also look in Tipperary records as some people on the borders gravitated to towns in Tipperary to register their especially if these were the towns they went to for market days etc. So do same searches on GV for Tipperary. north Riding of Tipperary also included parts near Roscrea near the Kings townlands.
It is a good idea to have a townlands map open when you do these searches.

From FS on Calendar of Irish Wills Patrick was a bachelor at the time of death and his goods GBP1000 were administered by his brother Daniel under Letters of Administration. I think I would also look at the probate for a Patrick Kilmartin who died in 1855 as it may have been some relation.
On FS there is a Daniel born 1836 and one born 1821 and both die in 1872. Either one would have been old enough to inherit from a brother in 1859. Also dying in 1872 is a Dennis - born 1819.
Also on same site several Probates can be searched at your local FHC or the microfiches sent to you for a Denis/Dennis Gilmartin in early 1870s. Gilmartin and Guilmartin seem to be alternate spellings to look for as well.
If you have access to Ancestry head straight for the Irish Records Extraction Database and do a search there for all these names, inc the alternates. I have found that this database is good for Kings/Offaly records and provides occupations etc and other details.

Thank you shanreagh for the information .The reason for my interest in the is that my Great great grandmother was Margaret Kilmartin and she was married to Timothy Brophy. Denis Kilmartin who died in 1872 named Timothy as his sole executor of his will. I am trying to piece together the connection between Dennis and Margaret. Margaret and Timothy were married in 1848 in Eglish. Unfortunately I dont have any information about Margaret parents. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Happy to help. Just a couple of queries.
Have you got dates of birth for Patrick, Daniel or Denis?
And your gt gt grandmother? Birth and/or death?
Often with big families and Irish naming patterns you get several of the same name that could fit the age group but one might be a son, the other a father and the other a nephew.
Irish naming patterns can be a good clue to tracking the generations. Do you know the names of Margaret's & Timothy's children. Have you done any Brophy research so do you know what names he had in his family that his children may be named after?
Sons
1st son was named after the father's father
2nd son was named after the mother's father
3rd son was named after the father
4th son was named after the father's eldest brother
5th son was named after the mother's eldest brother
Daughters
1st daughter was named after the mother's mother
2nd daughter was named after the father's mother
3rd daughter was named after the mother
4th daughter was named after the mother's eldest sister
5th daughter was named after the father's eldest sister
From a site that I always put the folk I looking for through. This a church records site developed mainly for Cork, Kerry and Dublin births. Surprising how many people from all parts of Ireland were married in Dublin. I found 'By licence of parish priest' a Denis Ryan and a Mary Kilmartin were married in St Nicolas Church Dublin in 1858.
Both were from Tipp/Offaly - Mary from Eglish
Mary's parents were Jacob and Mary Kilmartin.
Quite close in time to when Timothy and Margaret got married.

here are births to the same couple

With more Kilmartin names as sponsors
This great site has some Offaly/Tipp names and parishes so have a poke around in here.

I find it useful to set up an excel spreadsheet called some thing like
'Kilamartin/Brophy mentions' with headings such as 'Name First name dates where mother father Spouse Died occupation record type' and put it in year order, eventually, with all the mentions you find. When you find name add it and where you got it from so you can find it again. I have just managed to sort out a family who had William, John and Robert in every generation mainly by looking at the wives names but the spreadsheet allowed me to gather all the names together.
Don't take anything off. This is really a sources guide. In a few years time or even many years time possibly even names that did not look promising may turn out to be yours.
Happy to help with more details

many thanks - Have sorted the Brophy side and have tried to piece together the Kilmartin side using the theory of names but with no luck - the only link is that I know that I called after Margaret as I can trace it down the generations - family history is like big puzzle its just a question of getting the correct pieces- the search continues
-
Well you now have a Jacob and Mary as possible contenders for the parents of Margaret to add to the list!

Here is a link to a wonderful site. This has a whole lot of tips and tricks for searching including the triangulation method. Even though it came from Donegal site it is applicable to all Irish searching.
may be a useful link if you have not seen it before.

I think Patrick was a bachelor who had a drapery and hardware shop in Frankford. When he died in 1859 he willed it to his brother Daniel in Derrydolney. Derrydolney is the home townland of the Kilmartin's in the Frankford / Ballyboy parish. Daniel was married to Maria Corcoran (married 1839) from Rahan (neighbouring parish) and her sister Eliza Corcoran was married (1848) to another brother Michael Kilmartin of Derrydolney. Both brothers had separate houses in Derrydolney and were farmers. I think they had a sister Mary Ann married to Denis Donnelly of Cadamstown (in another neighboring parish). Both brothers had 6 kids.
In regard to the Kilmartin's of Coolreagh (another townland in Ballyboy parish), I think Denis (Farmer) was the brother of Daniel Kilmartin the Shopkeeper in Frankford village (not to be confused with Daniel of Derrydolney above - a slightly different Kilmartin). Daniel died in 1972 at 51 years of age. His wife Judith had died 3 weeks earlier. Denis - a bachelor - was present at Daniel' death and he himself died 6 months later. Denis' will was proved by their sister Margaret's husband Tim Brophy.
You may have some of the above already.
