Evening searchers,
I've located a miller who used to work Fincham's Mill, in Lakenheath from 1844-1847. I have also found a census entry for him in 1841 (with no occupation) also in Lakenheath.
Can anyone help me establish if he was a miller pre-1844? It would be a great help!

Hi Doran54,
I've been looking on familysearch.org website and they don't hold occupations, could you advise where is best to get occupational info? I'm amassing data on millers in Suffolk rather than named individuals (Chas. Newdick just happens to be one I'm looking at today).
Any advise would be great!

Thank you both. Thats added a few years to how long he was at the mill, though my records show him in Undley Road, Lakenheath (I'll need to check they are the same road).
Thanks for the info on ancestry. Does it allow you to search on occupation or does it happen to list it only?

Hi Windy, both Ancestry and Find my Past allow searches by occupation, in the case of FindMyPast with the exception of 1841 and 1871, but you have to be pretty exact with his job title!

Well he was not at Lakenheath mill anymore as James or John Trudgett were milling there from 1855-ish to 1892-ish.

Hi pb104,
I'm going through my mail box folder and trying to remove some and I have come across a number of posting I have not gotten back to.
You appear to be one. 1 thousand apologies!
I'm researching Suffolk's windmill (well all mills but mainly wind) and the Newdick's appear to have had one of the Lakenheath mills. Specifically the mill known as Fincham's or Clay Pit Mill or Undley Road Mill (all the same).
I have then there from 1841 - 1851, so anything relating them to the mill before or after this date would be great! One of the Lakenheath mill was for sale in 1852, perhaps this was when Newdick left and the Trudgett's started?
