Hello
Would anyone have access to street directories for Hulme for the 1930s and 40s? Or are these available online anywhere? I know my family had a furniture brokers at 107 Upper Moss Lane and lived at 41 Bishop Street. I'm trying to find these on a map so I can possibly match them with photographs in the online Manchester Local Image Collection. I'm hoping that from the street directories I can narrow down where the buildings were in the roads e.g. between two side roads etc
The properties would be listed under James Starkie Coe or one of his sons Harold or Gerald Coe.
Thanks
Donald

107 Upper Moss Lane
Hulme
COE, Harold G
Householder
58 South Drive
Chorlton cum Hardy
No Gerald listed

Thanks Saddles. Does the directory give any indication where these would have been in the street e.g. I think 107 Upper Moss Lane was somewhere near the junction with Craven Street. I know in some directories they list where the houses break for another road.
best wishes
Donald

Hi Donald,
According to the 1895 Street Directory. 107 Upper Moss Lane is situated between Craven St & Derby St.
107 being the corner house to Craven St
Hope this helps
Regards, Dave

Thanks Dave, that's very kind of you and confirms what I thought. Sadly the Manchester Local Image Collection hasn't any photos of that corner. They have a photo of 109 next door!!!! :)
Thanks

41 Bishop Street.
I can't find a Bishop Street in Hulme, there was a Bishop Street in Moss Side (Also shown on the map links above) but listed at that address in 1933 is an Arthur Hall.

Thanks Ron and Dave, some very helpful information. Definitely pinpoints the shop on the map. The 1913 reference to Florence Coe I'd not seen before either. My great grandmother Sarah Ann Coe was known as Florence Coe for some reason.
Many thanks for your help.
