I'm looking for information on the death and resting place of Joseph Tillcock. He might possibly be the Joseph born in Ware on April 11, 1817, to John and Mildred Tillcock. He married Hannah Phillips on February 4, 1838, in the Parish of Standon. The residence of both bride and groom was given as Wadesmill.
The IGI shows six of their children being christened in Sacombe from 1845 to 1857. Following them was a last child, christened in Ware in 1861.
After that, the only information I have is from the 1871 census. Joseph is absent and Hannah is shown as head of household, living in Great Amwell with three of her Sacombe children.
I haven't been able to find Joseph's death recorded in the IGI, FreeBMD or any other internet resource. If anyone can shed some light on Joseph's fate, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.

Welcome matildakin :)
I have checked the National Burial Index, but I'm afraid that there is no record of a burial for Joseph.
You would need to check the complete GRO indexes, either at your nearest LDS Family History Centre, or County Record Office in the UK. This information is also available online - pay to view at 1837 online.

As this is a query, I am going to move this post across to the Herts Lookup Requests board.
Best Wishes

It looks like the FreeBMD database has been updated since I last queried it. It now has a record for the death of Joseph Tillcock at age 53, registered in Ware in the second quarter of 1870.
Can anyone provide the details of this registration or information on Joseph's place of burial?

Hi matildakin
Unless you get lucky and manage to "hook up" with someone who has researched the same line as you, I'm afraid that the only way to find out what information is contained on the death certificate is to order it.
As the burial is not listed on the NBI or Hertfordshire Burial Index, realistically the only way to find it, would be to trawl through the relevant parish records. Few own Hertfordshire Parish Records because HALS does not sell its holdings on microfiche, only microfilm, so unless someone is going to HALS and is happy to check for you, you would need to check the LDS catalogue to see if they have the relevants films for viewing at your nearest LDS Family History Centre, or use the HALS research service.

That's them! I had looked in the 1861 census for the usual variations (Tillcock,Tilcock, Tellcock) and come up empty.
Joseph was indeed a groom, according to son Walter's birth registration in 1857.
Thanks so much, Carol!

Hi there
You mention Walter's birth being in 1857.
This census clearly says he's 3 weeks(I think they'd tell the difference ;D)
So it looks like this may be the 2nd child called Walter? The first one having died?
What do you think?
All the best

Walter was born in Sacombe in 1857. I suspect that the Walter in this census is actually the Charles shown in the IGI as being christened in Ware on April 14, 1861.

:-\Hi Matildakin
This probably wont be much help, but I have Joseph Tillcock's death on my family tree as 5/5/1870 at Amwell End, Ware (occupation groom) born 1817 Ware. He married Hannah Phillips on the 4/2/1838 in Standon, Herts. Hannah was born in Thundridge, Herts in 1817 and died in Hoddesdon Hertfordshire in 1887.
I have a lot of details about their children, which I will pass on if required.
Hope this is at least a tiny bit useful!!

Thanks for the update, Franksfan. Since I started this thread, I've ordered a few certificates from the GRO and got the info I was looking for.
I have quite a bit of detail about Joseph's children but there are a few gaps and question areas. We should compare notes by Personal Message.
Regards,
mat
