Can anyone help with clip below. I think it says: Elisabetha filia Johanis GIGGALL of Ossett ??? die ffebruary Its the word before die I'm stuck on. ???
The 2nd clip is suppose to be a 1727 marriage: Eleana SMITH & Elizabeth GIGGALL but is Eleana Latin for Helen ::) ???

Elisabeth was baptised on 14th february, cb

Are you sure the one below is a marriage as the line above is a burial? Maybe you could show a bit more of the page? cb
No, you are right, it says nupt, so it must be a marriage. What about Eli or Elias for his name though I am surprised that the vicar has ended a male name with an a, claytonbradley

Hi,
my take would be Elcana. Are there any more instances in the family

Never thought of nupt. ::)

Elcana sounds good, cb

How about Elkanah from the Book of Samuel ::)
-
That's how I've always seen it spelled, not as Elcana (that's my excuse for not recognising it!) cb
-
what surprised me was that the C of E was still using Latin at this late date ::)
-
What about this burial record.
-
I think it's the twenty seventh but it doesn't say which month.
Cheers
