I have the following family in Bethnal Green in 1891, but cannot find any of them in 1901.
Summerford St Bethnal Green
Edward Phillips 29 General Dealeer born Bethnal Green
Jane " 27 " " "
Samuel " 3 " " "
John " it says 7, but should be 1 " "
The first three may have died before 1901 census, but we know that John lived, and we have found him lodging in Southampton in 1911.
Can anyone help please?

Edward George bp. 21 Jan 1894 St Mary Whitechapel. Abode 13 Tapp Street. Father: General Dealer
James bp. 28 June 1897 St James the Grt. Abode: 7 Perth St. Father: Hawker
Joseph bp. 1 Feb. 1899 St Simon Zelotes, Bethnal Green. Abode: 15 Moss St. Father: Dealer.
Can't find any of them in the census !!

Hi
Not sure if you can either prove or disprove relationship with this lady...
1901 Census Hertfordshire St Peter District Lunatic Asylum
PHILLIPS Jane unmarried aged 39 Retired Rope and Twine Winder born London Bethnal Green
Her marital status could well be in error here.
Added... there is also an 11mth old Joseph PHILLIPS in the Bethnal Green Infirmary 1901 Census
Cheers

Wow! What a response. Thank you so much everyone. We will be working on all this info. A story passed down by the family was that the parents Edward and Jane died young (I think that there was a smallpox epidemic in Bethnal Green), and we think that John was put into some sort of naval training from a young age, so that may explain why we can't find him in 1901.
We cannot find death records for Edward and Jane. I checked out the Jane in the asylum. She was born in Bethnal Green but was living in Hertfordshire with her mother in a previous census, so she was born Jane Phillips, whereas Edward's wife was born Jane Vincent.
Many thanks again.

I forgot to ask all of you kind people ( who helped me with the Phillips) just how you did it. I had looked on the IGI but no luck. Did you find them online or at a Record Office?
