Title: BAYLEY family of Haslington, Cheshire
Post by: plimmerian on Thursday 30 January 14 19:45 GMT (UK)
my friend has started to research his BAYLEY branch and has got as far back as 1851 census in Haslington

James BAYLEY head aged 29, labour railway
Ann his wife aged 24
Frances a daughter aged 3
Mary a daughter aged 2
and his ancestor William a son aged 1month
all born in Haslington
(with a lodger Philip Hicton? aged 40 a butcher also of Haslington)

he is curious to find the marriage of James and Ann - are there any Haslington records online he could search or is it a trip to Cheshire Record Office?

thanks

Have you checked freebmd for the year of marriage and Ann's maiden name.  Haslington came under Nantwich RD for that period

Have you checked Family Search

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1614792

You can use www.cheshirebmd.org.uk to see if it is transcribed as it will show which church it took place in

Hi

If you have a sub with FindMyPast then you can see some original entries from the Parish of Haslington.  The baptisms of the three children listed on the 1851 Census are there but as yet not seeing a possible marriage for their parents.

Cheers
Karenlee

In 1861 the Bayley family are listed as "Bailey" living at Grub Street, Haslington as follows:

James 38
Ann 34 (born Werton?)
Frances as Francis 13
William 10
Marthar 8?
John 4
Ann 7months
with a brother Thomas Bailey  56

all born Haslington

no Matthew Moses found as yet but an ancestry tree states he lived until 1929 - no parents listed!

sorry to sound dumb but getting confused by it all now - are there two Matthew Moses Bayley one with a father James and one with a father William??? I thought this was going to be easy lol
Title: Re: BAYLEY family of Haslington, Cheshire
Post by: wisdoms59 on Wednesday 05 February 14 02:51 GMT (UK)
also confused how Fanny / Frances same age but appearing as belonging to two families but a Fanny Bayley born in Congleton district in 1848 but census states born Haslington - also a Frances Bayley born in the correct district of Nantwich in 1847 for being born in Haslington - argh - and the winds won't stop lol

it started off so easy with James Bayley an only child of the William Bayley born abt 1851 in Haslington!

Hi
Stick with it, it will all start to slot into place :)

This looks like James's death
James Bailey

birth: 1822
burial: 10 March 1862 Haslington, Cheshire, England
residence: 10 March 1862 , Haslington, Cheshire, England

So in 1871,it looks like his brother is living with Ann. They wouldn't have been allowed to marry as I think that  it was illegal to marry your dead husband's brother, in England.

there seems to be a William and Emily both aged 25 in 1841 in Haslington with daughters Lavinia and Hannah - two Emily Bayley deaths listed in 1852 in Northwich area - just got to keep chipping away at it I guess ;-)

I feel that there are two different families around the same area and time period. Both James Bayley as head of household.
I'm a member of the James Bayley and Ada Alice (Hockenhull) variety! Quite enjoying this ...pity Christmas preparations getting in the way!
We have an Eva not Eve as far as we are aware. Thanks for all the help.

Norma this is your BAYLEY family, I have just 'skimmed' through the census returns and I get back to the one in the opening post. James b 1877 father William b 1851 is the month old baby referred to.
