Hi All, I am looking for the death record of my three times great grand Father David Clarey , he is said to have been killed while trying to stop a runaway horse and carriage. Find A Grave has a David Clarey D Feb 16,1888 and buried at Auburn Cemetery in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. He was from New Britain, Ct, he left there in 1888, the year of his burial record. I would like to find his death certificate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He was about 50 yrs old
in 1888.

I see the Find A Grave listing under D. Clarey. Do you have any other information that this was him?
In the New Britain city directories, there is a David Clarey listed in 1881, 1882, 1884, and 1885. In 1886-1888, there is only a Mrs. David Clarey listed.

The Illinois death index has an entry for D. Clary, age 65, who died in Sangamon Co. on 16 Feb. 1888. http://www.ilsos.gov/isavital/deathSearch.do

The cemetery records have D. Clarey on page 160. They say he died from consumption. http://www.idaillinois.org/cdm/compoundobject/collection/linl3/id/910/rec/2

Thanks again for your efforts. Family lore has him killed stopping a runaway horse and carriage but no one knows where this happened.

Do you have any specific information that indicates he left town in 1888?
With his wife being listed alone for 1886-1888, maybe he left/died before 1888?
Do you have a death/burial for his wife that might give any clues as to his whereabouts?
